Travel- the trials and tribulations

Atlanta and Dallas are pretty high on my "not unless I have to" list.
Las Vegas and New Orleans are the top of my list of places I would be fine with never going to again.
Agree with the folks that said they're 3 day trips, mostly. Certainly for Vegas. 3 days every 7-8 years is fine. If i never went again, I wouldn't think anything of it.

I loooove New Orleans though. Top-3 city for me, easily. I could spend 4-5 days there every couple of years.

I mean, the WW2 museum alone I could spend a full day at, over and over again. It might be the best museum I've ever visited, and I go to a ton of museums. They are always top 1 or 2 things on our list for every larger city we visit (non-camping vacations). It's absolutely fantastic, 10/10 and worth the trip to NO by itself.

This past trip down was my first time going to the WWII museum. It’s a 2 day museum minimum. I was there from 11-close and only made it about halfway and only made it that far because I started just skimming the information for the last hour or two.

Yeah, we spent about 6 hours in just the exhibits and could have easily done a 2-day pass for the full experience. I'm also one of those "read every display" type dudes. There's no way you can do that at that museum. It's borderline overwhelming how dense the exhibits and information is. It's pretty fucking comprehensive. They have an entire room dedicated to Guadalcanal, which was awesome as my grandfather was a Marine there in his deployment. Never spoke about it until maybe a month before he died. His stories and knowing what went down there pretty much explained why. Brutal.

I didn’t make it to the WW2 museum when I was in NOLA last year. (My visit there was brief, but I love that city as well.)

Have you been to the WWI museum in KC? I went last year and I was very impressed.

I have not! I've only been to MO once, a brief stay in St. Louis. But it's within our camping radius, albeit near the edges. At some point we'll make it out that way and I'll be sure to check it out.

That museum is incredible and you know it's an amazing when my wife happily spends 4 hours at a war museum.

We're planning on a 10 day European trip next summer, centered mostly around going to the British Grand Prix. The date hasn't been confirmed for yet but it will probably be 7/4/27.

For this visit we're probably mostly going to be focused on visiting parts around the UK. My wife's family is originally from County Kerry in Ireland so we're going to get there and my son has ideas for things he wants to do in London.

Anyone have any thoughts on this for folks who have been? None of us have ever been to Europe so we're still feeling things out and gathering ideas.

Following closely as we are tentatively planning a spring trip to England with the kids to attend some Premier League games (I've never been) for my 40th. London, Liverpool, not sure where else.

It's been almost 15 years since we were in County Kerry, but this place still sticks out in travel memories as being awesome. https://www.ballyseedecastle.com/ I recently looked it up for my brother's wife (going there soon), and it still looks like a great place.

They had two awesome dogs - an Irish Wolfhound, and this little one who carried around a handful of rocks in his mouth for people to throw. Then he would round them all up without ever letting an already picked up rock fall out of his mouth. He wouldn't drop any of them until they were all successfully found/stored in his cheek.

That looks awesome.

I'm not a huge traveler, but I'm really excited about that trip.

I need to renew my Pre Check so I went to the website and there are three vendors you can use - Telos, Clear, and Idemia. Telos and Clear are $69.95 to renew online, but Idemia is $58.75. Why? Is it shittier somehow?

Ultimately, it doesn't matter because I get it for free though my credit card, but I'm skeptical about using the cheaper one. Well, I'm skeptical of using any government administered anything these days, but this seems weird to me. Anyone have a favorite? I also don't travel enough to need Clear or Global Entry, so I'm just renewing my pre check.

I just renewed my pre-check and I used Telos and had my KTN in 12 hours. The three were all within a few bucks of each other and the Telos service had the most convenient time/location for me. I could not find any significant reason to go with one over the other other than convenience.

I'm planning to renew mine online. The funny thing is, Telos is the cheapest one if you do in-person. They're $58.75. Clear is $79.95, and Idemia is $66.75. Weird.
