...but the BOB is def for bigger kids that can lift their necks and move a bit. For newborns, def get something that allows you to put the car seat directly into it. Less waking them up when asleep and much easier transition from car seat to cruising around.

So yeah, you're gonna need two strollers.

It’s more like having a “system” is good for the reasons above but those strollers never seemed as sturdy. We made it through with a city mini on the rough streets of Philadelphia and thought it worked well.

Also, consider if you want a car seat adaptable unit. No idea if the uppa baby car seat is good as we didn't use that. My wife said in her experience it wasn't worth getting one when she would much rather have a better transition car seat (one that can grow with the kid). We got a britax car seat and it is great. Simple to adjust, and inserts VERY easily and VERY securely.
This is a very good point. A lot of people have the seats that detach from the car and attach to the stroller, but we never really wanted that, opting for a seat that would grow with the kid. #1 was still in the same seat as when he was an infant at 4 years old and would still be in it had we not had #2. I believe ours was an Evenflow.

Meh, disagree. We never did that and it seems super pointless to me. The kid can handle being picked up, and especially these days where are you taking them? Having a stroller insert for a handful of visits to the pediatrician doesn't seem worth it. We've actually yet to put #2 into a stroller, opting for a carrier every time.

I remember the bob having a bar that would replace where the tray goes to lock in a child seat for when the kids were really young. We got it when we had our second and the older one was barely two. The double could handle the newborn and the the older one that was not in a child seat. Then we installed the tray and both could ride in it when the younger one was out of the car seat.

The variety of stroller recs is exactly what I expected. My head was spinning last night at all of the permutations - comes with bassinet, doesn't come with bassinet, comes with car seat, doesn't come with car seat, expandable to double, not expandable to double.

🤯

We started with one of those car seat strollers someone gave us. Not sure the brand. It was okay. When the first one outgrew it we went with a McClaren stroller. I love the dang thing. Super light weight and super maneuverable it allowed for more agile city movement. They are also super durable (we used it 10 years later with another kid) and you can clean it with a hose. They look a little dinky but they fold up easily and very small. I would recommend them to anyone with a small child. It's by far the best value and easiest to use of the ones we have tried. Keep in mind most people (myself included) never use all that extra crap that comes with a lot of strollers. A cup holder and shade cover is all you really need.

We have also had 3 other strollers given to us. 2 different Bobs and some other pain in the ass brand. The bobs were great for getting around in the outdoors on hikes or muddy festival grounds but were too heavy and bulky for casual shopping or walks.

It's one of those things you need to go see in a store to know what you're dealing with. Can't really make a good decision online.

Meh, that only works if you spend most of your time hacking at trees and pouring uneven concrete.

If you like to get out more often with your child, it's fantastic to have a cart that can hold your child's car seat as you come and go. I think we had a graco at first and then moved into the BOB. As mentioned, the BOB is a bit large and not the best in tight spaces, but works great for most other options. Has lots of storage and solid sun protection.

As steimie said though, best bet is to go and test a few out before you purchase.

Unfortunately that's not really in the cards right now given the COVID situation here and we've got to get this registry going.
This was a shop in LA we travelled to when we were registering just to take a look at different options. Big selection of strollers on hand.

With #1 we actually went out quite a bit (he was a regular at Fieldwork for a while), it was never a problem. When he was very little (which is when those things are most beneficial because they're sleeping all the time and harder to put back to sleep) we wanted to wear him while out anyway. I feel like with those stroller/carseat combos you end up with something that's worse at both things, for pretty dubious savings. But obviously ymmv.

So I guess what I'm saying is that Jerm should look into carriers as well. We're using a Happy Baby and a Baby K'tan with success with #2 (who refuses to sleep during the day unless being worn).

Also highly recommend finding stuff for cheap/free. My wife is in a local "buy nothing" Facebook group and just from people in our (broadly defined) neighborhood plus a couple friends with slightly older kids we've gotten pretty much everything we didn't have already have left over from #1. I think the only things we've really bought are consumables and #1's new carseat.

That is what we did, and again based on my wife's years of experience. For regular walks and outings a carrier is great. It also had like a 99.99% rate of putting the baby to sleep in less than 5min (a few times would even put my baby in it to walk around in the house to calm her down and put her to sleep).

We used the tula and it is great! Easy for one person to get the baby in and secure it. Comfortable for the baby and the adult. (Jerm, when is your little one due? My girl is pretty much done with the carrier, especially with how active she is. I can talk with the wife to see if she has plans for it.) We also had the moby, which was meh, but probably more because we didn't use it enough to get comfortable with it.

This is literally how #2 is has to be put to sleep during the day right now. When I take over in the morning I've started strapping him on, walking around (either inside or outside if that doesn't work) and then just rocking back and forth in my office chair while I get work done. I'm definitely the only one at my company who's routinely at his desk at 6AM...

Anyone start remote school stuff yet? Major anxiety in our household right now over this nonsense.

Two virtual kindergarten open houses yesterday at the same exact time because our twins are in different classes. So I had to cut out from work to hop on one while my wife took the other because parents had to take notes. Earlier today our daughter had her second grade open house with my wife taking notes. We have two separate practice zooms this afternoon again at the same time because of the boys being in separate classes. Later this afternoon, we have materials pickups at the school for all three kids at different times. But then we still have additional materials to buy before Monday.

Twins started virtual 1st grade this morning. Teacher was on top of her stuff last week, able to get all the materials and computers and whatnot.

kids were a little nervous and not sure what to do, but wife says it’s been pretty structured for the live stuff, lots of non live time to get stuff done and fuck off a little so it’s not completely boring. Teacher seems to have a good plan for building up the instruction timeline as it goes to get all the kids used to it.
Thankfully for us, both are in the same class.
Good luck!

Did you request twins be in different classes? Having them in the same class just seems to make sense, given the current situation.

Before all the shit hit the fan, we requested separate classes so they can be more independent, yes. By the time everything changed to being remote and we realized what a pain in the ass it would be, it was too late to request that they be in the same class.

Our local district makes a practice to put twins together in K but then separate after that. But when they went all online to start this upcoming year, they paired the twins back up to avoid just what you're dealing with. Honestly, you should really think about pairing them up. The year just started and it's Kindergarten and online, so the hassle for the school is minimal at this point and the benefits to your family are immense. It'll be so much less work.

But if that's not happening, is there some way you can get grandma or a neighbor or someone to help out a little? Gonna be a long ass year otherwise.
