The Disney+ Thread (streaming begins 11/12/19)

Coming February 19th. Better late than never.

I think The Muppet Show has complicated/expensive rights issues somewhere behind it.... they never actually finished releasing them on DVD.

Good to see they apparently threw money at the problem, lol.

I wouldn't mind having Muppets Tonight as well (which I don't think EVER made it on DVD)

I read that Sony owns the rights to The Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets from Space. Not sure what the issue was with The Muppet Show, but I'm glad they figured it out.

I believe it was residuals for guest stars and music rights.

As for the Sony stuff.... yeaaaah.... those movies are basically just going to be stuck over there unless Disney wants to write a fat check to either buy or license them.

Peter Jackson is directing a new film using raw audio and video of The Beatles recording Let It Be, titled The Beatles: Get Back. Set to be released in August in theaters and on Disney+. You can watch a 5 minute sneak peak right now.

not when HBO max is doing the same thing but with no payment. i feel like a lot of people are going to lean towards HBO. i mean it isn't the same content but still.
$8 more per month for some people, granted.

Not sayin I’ll pay it but Disney is running a low cost leader here.

Yeah that is Warner Bros pulling the cord and bailing out. And who even knows what HBO is paying them for those rights, maybe more than they think they would make in theaters plus VOD when all is said and done.

Disney isn't going to release on another platform so can't make those kind of deals. It still might end up included without the "early access" after a couple months like Mulan was.

I know the average consumer doesn't really take a lot of these things in to account though, but Trolls World Tour made like 40mil it's opening weekend on VOD and most of the target audience already has Disney+.

The Muppet Show is now on and its great. They actually went back and relicenced the music and I never realized how much I’d not seen!

There’s also been the “oops we were super racist 40 years ago” message in front of a few episodes (like they’ve put in front of their older movies). Better than cutting it.
