Whisk(e)y

I'm not much of a scotch guy, but it's nice to have a place where the owner will just walk over and pour a $200 bottle into your glass.

Macallan Harmony Collection Arabica. Very soft and mellow. None of that latex that always puts me off of scotch.

Definitely the Band-Aid aroma
Even within peated whiskies there is the balcony/camp fire smoke (lagavulin) and the medicinal smoke like ardbeg; honestly never heard anyone call that laytex or band aid, things I usually associate with Brett beers.

Anyway, try some non-peated Scotch:)
Scotch is wonderful and largely hasn’t been crushed by the bourbon price increases and gouging.

If you need recs feel free to ask:)
Grab a dram of Balvenie 21yr portwood. Or go all in on peat and have your tastebuds violated and try an Octomore.

Went camping over the weekend and decided to grab a bottle from a brand I haven't taken the time to dive into. You might be able to tell what I thought by the damage done.

For the proof point, and this just being a standard shelf bottle, I was impressed by how much flavor and aroma this has. I definitely get the hype for the brand.

Might as well dig into the Michter's 10 year bourbon after that bottle. Oh my!

Once again absolutely blown away by the nose on a sub 95 proof pour. Maple syrup with melted butter and powdered sugar, basically the best pancakes... candied walnuts, vanilla.

Palate is soft and velvety. Sweet oak and a little char to start, but no bitterness or burn to be found. Light caramel, vanilla, and oak. Nothing fruity, all savory and sweet, but just so soft.

If you're looking for a thousand layers of flavors to sit and pick apart for an hour, this isn't it. If you're looking for a drink that feels like melting back into a soft leather chair... Oh yeah.

Shit, why not try the 10 year Rye while we're here?!

Same powdered sugar and sweet oak on the nose, but with lemon curd on the pancakes this time.

This is going to sound weird, but I'm sure it has some recency bias, and I mean it in the best way... The savory flavors here are warm lobster roll... No, no seafoodiness, but that subtle sweetness from lobster and melted butter on a roll... That's here, along with some price and vanilla. It's fucking good.
