Lots of tears potty training today. Lots of beers for daddy tonight.

Funny you should mention that, my 2.25 yr old peed for the first time today in his little plastic toilet . We've taken a much more hands off approach, just letting him sit on it and telling him that's where to pee and poop. Honestly, our strategy was just due to laziness and it not being the most pressing issue, but i was curious to your strategy.

We did the "no pants day" thing, constantly fed him juice, and gave him treats when he went. Not the healthiest but he caught on really quickly, and it's been mostly smooth sailing since. (There have been a few accidents, including one where he inexplicably peed all over himself while getting on the toilet, but mostly it's been fine.)
Ugh, wife just let our 2 1/2 year old watch Paw Patrol for the first time. This shit is going to crack for our girl. And it requires some subscription. Ugggh. Edit - and there's one girl and she wears pink. ugh.
Yeah Paw Patrol is garbage. We ended up just getting the Noggin subscription on Prime. It sucks but it helps keep us sane.

My guy is 23 months today. Doing the "Oh Crap" method which like stupac2 did starts with a no pants session typically lasting 1-3 days. Basically just get him to move from being absolutely clueless about pee coming out of him to understanding that he has to pee. You start to see their tells for when they're about to start unloading. Got him on the potty pre pee a few times but never made it for a poop. He got those on the floor all three times today. Tomorrow should be another fun one.

If you don't want to buy the book, the long and short of it is
1) No pants - get them to pee on the potty with or without prompting
2) Commando - This will take a few weeks (perfect for quarantine)
3) Underwear

Underwear are too similar to diapers and cause accidents so commando is good.

Yeah, it's fine to have brain candy I guess. There was a halloween episode June was watching today and it scared the hell out of her. It was really cute.

I just ordered a load of 4 pack crayons, coloring books, and stickers. When they get here I hope to send them out to any kid that could use a surprise. Hope to send along a hand drawn picture from my kids. Should be by the end of the month? Anybody interested?

Anyone have recs on when/how to convert bed to crib? Wife is convinced daughter is going to start wandering into our room, I'm thinking nothing is going to change. A friend said reinstall the baby gate in her room. Daughter is 2 1/2 so she's probably overdue for bed conversion.

Seems like what you really have to start thinking about is teaching kiddo to knock and respect some boundaries. I know at 2 1/2 it won't always work so well, bu that's probably your best long-term solution. Also, instead of gating her in your room, you could just put a lock on your bedroom door. Even just a simple hook and eye would keep her out and maybe help teach her to knock in order to be let in?

Happens at different ages for all kids so can’t really put a number on it. But my recommendation is to do it when you’re ready. Because despite best efforts, it’s going to be a transition and you’ll have to decide you have the energy for it. Only one of my three transitioned from crib to bed without some sort of sleep regression issue.

Different ages and physical abilities for every kid. My daughter? She never tried to climb out of her crib, so we waited until she was about 3 I think it was, and even then didn't get out of her bed at all when we transitioned her. My son though? He was crazy good climbing out of the crib at 2, so for the sake of safety moved him into a bed. Took about a couple weeks for him to stay in bed until he actually fell asleep. He's still a terrible sleeper.

We converted my son's crib into a bed when he was too heavy to lift in and out. He was also starting to climb things but mainly my wife couldn't actually get him out of it any more. Haven't had a ton of issues with him barging in on us, a couple times of trying it and us sending him back stopped it.

It was pretty easy for us because our daughter's crib converted into a day bed. So when she was about 2 1/2 or so we did the conversion. (mattress lowered down and the gate removed) It was pretty easy for all of us because she's been a great sleeper pretty much all of her life. After about 6 months in the day bed we got her an actual "big girl" bed.

June seems to have my metabolism, so that wasn't an issue. She just seems old enough and has lifted her leg to climb out a couple of times.

Bed is converted. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sounds like it could go any direction. It's been a fun morning for her. We'll see how naptime/bedtime goes though.

Not sure about the rest of you parents, but I was happy to hear that they are going to be starting next year a little early*. Gonna be pretty damn hot here still in mid-August, but I think it’s smart considering summer break has been underway for two months already 🙄

*I reserve the right to retract this statement if the pandemic takes an ugly turn between now and then however.

Hoping for similar here in MI, but school budgets are gonna take a huge hit, so I'm not hopeful.
