The Official Cat Pix Thread

I think (desperately hope) we’re on the right track now. He spent all day Thursday on IV fluids and was fed by the vet via syringe. As soon as we got him home last night, he made a bee line for his dry food. The vet said he could stay home today and he’s been up and walking around. And continuing to eat.

It’s been hard to get a decent picture of him showing off his recovery suit (we also have one in a fun tiger stripe).

Vet think it’s pancreatitis. How do cats get that? No idea. How do we prevent it? No clue. How do we treat it? IV fluids and anti-nausea meds. As long as he continues to eat, he should be fine. His stitches for the 8” incision on his abdomen come out in 2 weeks.

Had he not resumed eating, the next step would have been to insert a feeding tube for 2-3 weeks. Some threads on Reddit suggest those aren’t so bad to manage. I’d just as soon avoid finding out for myself, though.

I hope your dude remains in good shape for surgery on Monday Stabby !
Go Leopold!! Go eat all the foods! ❤️

Geezer says thanks for the well wishes!

I also bought a surgery suit. Chewy only had hideous camo cat suits so I got one for very smol dogs. It says "ruff life." 🤷🏻‍♀️ Waiting on the two goofy cones to arrive.

We got ours from Amazon - also a pretty limited variety. Leopold doesn’t love it but he is able to use the litter box while wearing it.

I got to the shelter for the first time in a few weeks yesterday and while there weren't many cats available, the quality ratio on the ones that were was outstanding.

April is seven. She was brought into the shelter by a couple who found her abandoned by the side of the road in a carrier (door was open but she was too shell-shocked to know what to do). The people who found her were supposedly working it out with their landlord so they could come back and adopt her. She spent the whole morning chilling in the sunlight in the windowsill, and would give you a welcome meow when you walked in if you came over to her.

Scottie Scheffler was an absolute unit for only being two. All he wanted to do was sleep undisturbed. If you came over and gave him too much attention he would very politely get up and relocate someplace else and resume his snoozing.

Simba probably got the most attention from me while I was there. Just an absolute sweetheart who would start furiously making biscuits all over that blanket after some good head scritches. He got adopted out towards the end of my visit.

Monkey was also a very sweet boy. He was mostly on the shelf next to Simba and I would stand over there giving both of them some attention. At one point Monkey rolled over for some belly rubs and got so into them that he forgot where he was and rolled off his shelf and fell down. I felt bad laughing but it was hilarious.

Fluffy took a little time to warm up. I thought she was super skittish at first, but she ended up being fine with people as long as she could stay in hiding while you interacted with her. Did an A+ job of murdering a feather toy

Nala was recovering across the hall after getting spayed a few days ago but she was very happy to get some attention.

Blueberry was my second to last stop. As an older cat with FIV she'll probably be there a while, but she seemed really friendly when I stopped by. Surely someone will fall in love with the resting blep face.

Papaya is always my very last stop of the day on account of her having FeLV. I've got to stay sharp, I've learned the hard way that Papaya goes from cuddlebug to choosing violence *very* quickly

The Geeze's surgery went well today and they said he was very sweet. Now we recover.

He's still pretty zonked from the day and has spent most of the night staring into the void in that corner. I tried to move him to the couch, but he went right back to the corner. He ate a lot of kibble though! I'll give him a proper breakfast tomorrow and see how that goes. He snubbed the Churu; his brother Oscar was okay with that.

One of our former cats was a guy who formed crystals in his bladder. Once we got the stones out, the treatment was a special diet (low ash diet? That sounds right but it’s been a long time so don’t quote me) and there were no repeat incidents. Hopefully it’s an easy fix for Geezer (I keep wanting to call him Geezer Butler but I don’t know if that’s who you named him after) once he’s back to peeing normally.

Geezer is just a nickname. His real name is Bill Ward.

Thanks! All has been well so far. He now has special prescription kibble and wet food. Thankfully he and the rest of the crew likes it.

@tosh nicknamed him Geezer but his real name (which no one uses) is Andy, which evolved to Andrew P Geezer (which I use occasionally).

When I got the the shelter yesterday morning this super friendly guy was already in the process of being adopted. "Bowser's on his way out of here" the vet tech told me, and then she and the soon-to-be pet owner went to the front desk to start the paperwork. I decided to start scanning microchips to figure out who else was who, because at that point 4 out of 5 cats in the room were voids. Only problem was that the first other guy I checked had a chip that didn't tie back to any of the remaining adoption sheets. Sure enough I scanned "Bowser" and his chip tied back to Mr. Kitty's paperwork instead. Got them to swap the paperwork when they came to collect him. Mr. Kitty was the first polydactyl friend I've made there, and he threw a mean headbutt.

This was the actual Bowser. He came out of hiding maybe five minutes after I sat down, and after evaluating me for another five hopped right up into my lap. He did like using my jeads as a scratching pad, which, considering his paw placement, had me a little nervous :ROFLMAO: Bowser was probably top 3 for cats I was tempted to bring home myself, but he did find a home before I left. He was also part of a whole run of Mario related names the shelter gave out. I also had a Yoshi and a Koopa in the room and I saw Luigi, Daisy, and Peach all on the website during the week too.

1000018635.webp
Linkin was the only non-void in the room. He spent the first chunk of my time there hissing at anyone who got close to him. That was particularly unfortunate since the windowsill he was camped out on was right next to where we keep all the paperwork lol. He came around a bit by the time I was leaving though and I got some pets in.

1000018636.webp
Helen was a beautiful cat but she's partially blind. It seemed like petting her was stressing her out more than anything because she couldn't see where it was coming from so I left her alone.

Team Papaya 💪🏽🔪

I was very happy when I checked the shelter site on Friday and Papaya had disappeared from the Adoption Cats section, assuming that it meant she'd been adopted. I said as much to the volunteer who came in part of the way through my visit yesterday, an older woman who essentially runs the cat program, and she just laughed. Evidently Papaya scratched one of the other volunteers bad enough that it couldn't be hidden from the staff and she got put in quarantine as a result.
