Let's All Go to the Movies

Who else could realistically play Indy?
Nathan Fillion circa 2004.

River Phoenix if he didn't, ya know, die would have been awesome going into his 30s/40s.

Also: apparently Tom Holland... because he's playing Nathan Drake in the 'Uncharted' movie and I always imagined that character as a Harrison Ford ripoff.

Right after Guardians came out I would have said Pratt for sure but now im with Harrison.

They’ll make another one eventually though. It feels inevitable.

Who else could realistically play Indy?

I don’t have a clue really. Oscar Isaac just popped into my head. How about him?

Coincidentally, I think he would also make a good Indy.

No one will give a shit but I’ll do this way:

Boogie Nights
TWBB
The Master
Hard Eight
Phantom Thread
Punch Drunk Love
Magnolia
Inherent Vice

I’m an unabashed Hard Eight fan and would easily watch it over The Master. I just think it is such a confident debut. Funny too.

Admittedly, I need to watch Inherent Vice again since I only saw it twice. I am a Pynchon fan but I actually threw this book in the trash after I finished reading it so this clearly clouded my feelings.

I also think PDL is just wonderfully cute 90 minute movie.

Hot take, I like PTA but I don't think he's capable of finishing a story properly. I admittedly haven't seen Phantom Thread, so maybe he nailed that one.

Overall, I like Hard Eight and Inherent Vice, I think Boogie Nights and TWBB start out incredibly but fall apart before the ending (I can even point to the moment in each film where they stop working for me), I don't like Magnolia, The Master or PDL and I haven't seen Phantom Thread.

I think I like the ending to Phantom Thread better than any of his other movies.

How would you rank PTA's movies? I haven't seen Blood in a few years, but recently watched The Master and Phantom Thread and was fucking blown away, whereas Magnolia has maybe became my least favorite.
PTA might be my favorite living director, because several of his films are high on my all-time list. 2 in the top 5 for me.

There Will Be Blood
Boogie Nights
Phantom Thread
Magnolia
The Master
Punch Drunk Love
Inherent Vice
Hard Eight

I actually kind of like that pick. I'm a big Indy fan, probably my favorite franchise, because I grew up on the VHS that McDonalds gave out in the early 90's.

I guess it would depend on if you wanted to do a complete re-boot or re-imagining of the character. If that's so, then the options are endless. For a total reboot, I think Tom Holland would be interesting.

To keep in the same timeline, fuck, I don't know. Too bad Heath Ledger isn't around, that could have been cool.

I like Tom Holland a lot, but he's kind of small, and is a lithe gymnast. Indy is more of a brawler to me, lacking any sort of grace.

I feel like Indy needs to look like he can realistically kick some ass, and do it with his fists. Not all though. He definitely needs to get his ass whooped sometimes too. So you don't want like Dave Bautista playing him (though I would love to see him specifically in a Sallah-like role), but he also can't be tiny.

Need a Hybrid of Tom Holland and Tom Hardy.

that makes sense to me. Though he could put on 40lbs. I’m trying think of actors that have some of that Indy charm.
From a physical standpoint, maybe Jared Keeso? My exposure to him limited though.

i got the Hitchcock 4K set last week and isn’t Vertigo just the fucking cherry on the Hitchcock cake. Beautiful new transfer Universal has done. Jimmy Stewart should’ve won like 12 Oscars for acting for that film.

I have the old Hitchcock FOX DVD set and I’m sad that Disney is probably honestly never going to touch those movies again because they don’t fit their Disney+ model. Ugh those guys sometimes.

I have the Blue-Ray Hitchcock set and it is gorgeous. Particularly fond of Shadow of a Doubt.

And I have the DVD set of the movies like Sabotage, Dial M for Murder, Foreign Correspondent, etc. Is that the other set you’re talking about?
