US - West Arizona

Thanks for the input.

My daughter is 11 and a pretty active hiker. Definitely trying to do all the research I can, though, to make sure we're prepared for every hike we attempt.

Tucson to Sedona will end up being closer to 4 hours due to having to drive around Phoenix.

All of my in-laws live in Tucson and I am down there a few times a year. I have always enjoyed the Sonora Desert Museum and you'll see plenty of saguaro driving through the pass from Tucson. They even have a cacti garden at the museum with lots of different varieties. On your way back, grab a beer at Pueblo Vida and take your kid to the outdoor mercado (San Agustin) to eat on the patio at Seis (get the fried avocado tacos and chicken taquitos). More hiking would be Sabino Canyon and Seven Falls, Douglas Spring and Tanque Verde Ridge.

Outside of Sedona, hike up West Fork trail. It isn't difficult but you get to see the red rock canyons and get to cross the creek a bunch of times. Our cabin is just up river from the entrance and I've been up there tonnes of times. Your kid will enjoy it. Closer to Sedona townsite, look up Soldiers Pass. I usually hike it as a loop to see the seven sacred pools, the Mitten, Brin's Ridge, Hole in the Sky, etc.

If you make it up to Flagstaff, hit up Dark Sky brewing and take your kid to Lava River Cave. Not hard but neat to walk a mile in a lava tube, bring a flashlight!

Awesome, thanks!

A couple more questions:
1) Where should I go for the best mexican food in the Phoenix and/or Tucson areas?
2) Is there anything else to do/worth seeing in Prescott besides Superstition Meadery?

All I can I add is that Travis, formerly of Societe Brewing, is now at LazyG Brewhouse. I'm definitely going to check that place out whenever I get around to visiting Prescott. Also Rickety Cricket won a medal or two at GABF this year if that means anything to you.

the best? there is no best. if you want approachable, the local sit-down chain Manuel's is good, similarly Tee Pee on E Indian School or Don Jose (nostalgic bias, favorite of my family, cash only) on E Thomas is also good. not really mexican but more Spanish, i'd highly recommend checking out Pa'la on 24th st. Tucson has El Charro, and you should get a sonoran dog if you're down there (lots of places for that too). not to mention the countless short-order *berto's places everywhere (berto's, eriberto's, Filiberto's, julioberto's) that could be hybrid baja/sonoran

As I mentioned before, hit up Seis in Mercado San Agustin while in Tucson. A bit fancier and super good would be Penca. El Charro and Blanco are also casual good options. As for Phoenix, there are a lot of places; TeePee, Aunt Chiladas, Mi Ranchito. OR... you could just go to Little Miss BBQ....

Prescott. Loved Superstition and looking around the shops in the building. We also just hung out across the street at Courthouse Plaza. A block away is Rickety Cricket which was a total surprise, in a good way.

Thanks all, appreciate the insights. Sounds like there’s no shortage of good options.

Thought of posting this in the Travel thread under interests but then thought you guys might have better recommendations.

Looking to do a Spring Break road trip in our camper trailer with my wife and two young (9 and 5) kids. Briefly sketched out a route from our place in Southern California to Albuquerque. No real reason for New Mexico other than neither the wife nor I have been. Looking to hit up the Grand Canyon for a day or so. Other destinations of interest in Arizona we should consider on our way through? (Wife and I celebrated our anniversary in Sedona in November so we are familiar with the route between Phoenix and there) Anything else in New Mexico to consider such as going to Santa Fe? Thanks for any suggestions!

Headed to Tucson for a few days next month. Outside of Dragoon, 1702, Tap & Bottle, and Pueblo Vida are there any bar/shop recommendations? Also, any favorite food spots? Love all kinds of foods...

Add in Blake's Lotta burger. Time Market is a good bottle shop as is T&B north location (well, either location works).

There are a few breweries I haven't been to yet but plan on checking out in March when I'm there, Ten55, Harbottle, Corbett, crooked tooth, maybe green feet.

Pueblo Vida rules.

Going to PHX area (my folks got a place in Surprise) next week Fri and Sat. Plan on hiking one day, hitting some breweries/pubs next day.
Besides AzWilderness and Wren House what are the staples of the area?

Just head up the street to The Wander Tortoise from Wren House. Also King's Beer and Wine has an insane amount of taps.

I guess I should have come back to check this. I was with my folks so I didn't want to run them all over town. We did stop at Wilderness DTPHX for lunch and a flight. Funny how my dad insisted on a flight when I just wanted to peruse the menu and pick one that seemed up my alley. Who is the ticker now? :P
Then to Wren House. Great vibe and very busy inside. Chatted with some other folks of my parents ilk and met a grandmule who has been to Trillium, Monkish, etc. Said Wren House was his favorite in PHX and I get it. Beer was fantastic. But dang was it tiny.

Next day we headed up to Sedona, Jerome, then to Prescott and stopped at Superstition. Serious driving but all extremely beautiful. And I get the White Series now. Holy shit.

Headed to Phoenix for a few nights, in a couple weeks. I've got Wren, Wilderness, Tortoise, Kings, Superstition down on the list. Any musts for food? Any must dos for non-food and drink related activities? I will have a vehicle to roam around in

you'll need to reserve a seat for wren house on their website. you might as well check out Pa'la at the same time since it's next door

Wilderness has good pub grub. There's a ton of places for eats nearby if you go to the downtown location. Angel's Trumpet is good. Add a stop to Greenwood brewing as well. There's Cobra arcade bar too

Look at going to Tombstone North

Could catch a dbacks game? Otherwise you'll need to drive a couple hours to check out Sedona or Prescott if you like nature stuff. The Superstition mountains aren't as far east. But it's likely going to be hot

This is exactly what I needed. Thanks Andrew

Just found out a friend is driving from San Diego to somewhere East Coast, and taking the 10. He'll stay with us for a few nights.

Any good Tucson spots? Looking for APA/WCIPA?

A lot of haze. Dragoon might be a good one for more west coast. otherwise look at borderlands, iron john's, tombstone (if they feel like driving even further out of the way). can't comment about food other than suggesting Mi Nidito for the Bill Clinton combo.
