Listening to Bob Mould’s infamous Loudbomb album…..and it’s not nearly as terrible as I’ve been lead to believe.

Obviously he hadn’t totally figured out what he was doing with the technology so it’s pretty rough and ready but if you told me it was some 20 year old in the electroclash/nu-rave scene that was just blowing up around then I’d have believed you. It’s super melodic so I could imagine it on labels like Morr Music or Kompakt. (If they could live with the wonky production).

I log on to fb once a day because I'm an admin for our local beer group, so I'll also check my memories for that day while I'm there. Well apparently it was 11 years ago today that I got a coffee at the Coava on Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, and after I paid I turned around and Stephen Malkmus was in line behind me. I didn't try to talk to him, but I should have at least said hi. Oh well. Also, he's pretty tall.

There’s a new doc on Netflix called Secret Mall Apartment about four art students who lived in some hidden space in a Providence, RI mall for years undetected. There’s a little chunk of it devoted to Lightning Bolt and the local art/music scene. They interview Brian Chippendale.
