Truly the lord’s work.Malört is performing the gin function
Correction: Tom Cat with Bruto. I suspected this would be my favorite. Glad I screwed it up because it overcame my bias.Barr Hill with Bruto: The clubhouse leader. Sweetness of the Barr Hill valences nicely with the bitter, floral notes of the Bruto. I have high hopes for the Tom Cat version.
So, I should take the vermouth out when the fridge is closed?AND MAKE SURE TO KEEP YOUR VERMOUTH IN THE FRIDGE ONCE IT'S OPEN
For negronis I truly love Carpano Antica as my vermouth. It's slightly pricier but I think it's worth it.

Lillet blanc and Salers was my preferred combo for a white Negroni. In addition to not liking the taste as much, Suze gives the drink a pale urine color.I got a small bottle of Dolin to get through the holidays because I was thinking of trying something new but didn’t know what to get. I appreciate the recs. Also need to get some lillet blanc for a white Negroni.
So, can I up the Malört to an ounce? I embrace bitter.Probably. Just understand in this recipe that Malört is performing the gin function and the
gin, being orange flavored, is performing the function of the Campari.
All I got out of that is the Cynar Negroni is up there!
Negroni testing round 2:
Tom Cat Aperol: better than expected. Sweet but balanced. Fruity.
London Dry Cynar: The most true negroni. Balanced. The right combination
Barr Hill Aperol: the sweetness was dialed back from the Tom Cat just enough. If you want a sweeter Negroni that’s not cloying this is it.
Barr Hill Cynar: slight more sweet and complex than a base Negroni.
Barr Hill Bruto: Bruto overpowers a bit so herbal but tasty. (Not pictured)
Overall: Tom Cat with Bruto was the favorite. Rich and bitter but balanced. It’s not the most traditional but I love a boulevardier and it skews towards that. #2 London Dry with Cynar. Classic and balanced with nuance. #3 Bar Hill and Cynar. Skews sweeter but not overpowering.
Y'all can have my Suze bottle. Sorry, StabbyLillet blanc and Salers was my preferred combo for a white Negroni. In addition to not liking the taste as much, Suze gives the drink a pale urine color.
Cocchi Torino is absolutely my go-to in negronis. I think Carpano is too sweet/bold personally. I want my negronis to be bitter, Mrs. FUCK would actually prefer Punt e Mes as the vermouth, but that isn't for everyone.Carpano Antica, along with Cocchi de Torino are beautiful vermouths and provide a silky richness to the cocktail. I started with a small bottles to check them out and found they suit me better in higher abv whiskey drinks as they knock down the heat
Interested to hear why Campari was not one of the bitter options.

Wait, there are people out there who do two parts gin to one part of Chartreuse, Maraschino and lime? Finally picked up some green chartreuse. Are you a equal Parts last word person, or a double gin last word

I think that the equal parts version is downright sublime.
What else are you doing with that Green Chartreuse?

I... wasn't aware those were available again. And now in black?Cynar Negroni
I do enjoy Cynar with Barr Hill but I realize that you lose a little of the bitterness there.
Honestly I will never turn down any Negroni. They are the best.

I don’t have Campari on hand and didn’t feel like buying a bottle since I have a pretty good idea of where it would fall on the bitterness scale. I’ve used Campari with all the gins and it would be just as good with the Tom Cat. But for a regular gin, I’m enjoying Cynar more.Interested to hear why Campari was not one of the bitter options.
Not to sound like some traditionalist or anything.
