Small batch ginger b 2: well my BIL said it tastes like medicine but ai thought it was lovely and polished off the bottle. Goddamn lovely. Ginger, spice, enough honey to give it some backbone but not make it syrupy.

When I started I thought the coffee was green peppery but complimented the black currants and by the end I really liked the flavor so go figure. Really excellent flavor and an almost creaminess from the honey.

You’ll hate this if you don’t like root beer. It’s more vanilla forward than wintergreen but still a lot of rootbeer.

This one needed thinning out by seltzer but otherwise was lovely.

I am the target audience for this beverage. This is awesome.

Glass is empty because we shared this in the dark by a campfire but I wanted to say B2 is drinking great right now. Really stunning fruit in this one.

The only other meads of note I had today involved a certain favorite local meadery’s halloween 4-pack, which I am glad my friend bought and shared with us because there was nothing there I wanted a full can of. Maybe the caramel apple. I get what they were going for just not for me.

So... The Hobbit Cafe is a super kitschy little jaunt (did I do that right?) near our temporary apartment in Houston. It has decent food, but a pretty great mead list.

They also do some decent in-house meads... including an earl gray mead that I probably shouldn't have let my 1st grader try because she now requests it on a regular basis.

Kinda stoked to learn the Hobbit is still in business.

Raspberry in Valentine gin barrel. I had the opportunity to help transfer this mead to barrels, so it’s pretty cool to taste a product you had a (small) hand in. Because Valentine uses barrels many times by the time Schramm’s got their hands on it it was almost considered neutral. That shows up here. Nose is all raspberry no barrel/botanicals. Taste is smooth raspberry bite with only a punch of spirits on the backend. I think this is tasty but can see a few minor tweaks to improve the next batch and make it amazing.
