Axel Prufer is having a great year, and by extension I’m having a great weekend. The first is his 100% cinsault that never fails to amaze me. Candied watermelon goodness. The second is his 100% Chardonnay which was sublime. Peaches, honeysuckle, and lemon rind in perfect harmony. My only regret is not buying doubles of both.
I bought this bottle two years ago in Paris, mostly as a thank you to the bottle shop owner for letting me buy some other really great and hard to find bottles. He recommended cellaring this bottle for two years, so here we are two years later.
Solid Trousseau. Took about an hour to open and comes off with lots of cherry and olive.
This weeks Weekend Wine™ was Marnes Blanches’ 2022 Poulsard. Great out of the gate! Velvety on the tongue, well balanced, and great flavor profile. Snag one if you see one.
Chardo+Sauv blend. Briney, acidic, citrusy. Paired well with octopus salad for dinner. Steen can be really hit or miss but when he hits, he hits. His whites rarely disappoint.
I’ve become a bit of a Grappe fan boy over the past year. I’m never disappointed with his wines, and for their price point and quality they’re always a steal. This was great. Lots of fresh tropical fruit, raw spice, and nuttiness.
Really fantastic Alsatian Pinot Gris that drinks more like a poulsard. Light, fruity, and thirst quenching. I see why Meckert has garnered a lot of hype the last year or so.
