First pour of Rare Character SEG-006 8 year rye. I poured off a couple of drams for buddies and put the rest into mini-bottles. One guy wants the empty.
Minden Mill 4 year rye, distilled in NV. Photo is from last night. This won some awards, so I tried it out.
Fairly well-integrated and good body for a 4 year rye. Cherry, hints of licorice / anise, pineapple. But the dominant flavors are grain, carraway, and grapefruit peel (specifically the bitterness), which makes it feel very young. I'll see how it evolves, but I'm likely to give away half or drainpour it. (The bottle is empty because I poured it off into smaller Boston rounds.)
Faultline bourbon (a local liquor store's brand). IN distillate.
I've never loved MGP bourbons, not feeling this one either. It's not very expressive on the nose (mostly vanilla and cacao), weak flavor (watery vanilla or creme brulee). I've started drainpouring some whiskies, and this is a contender.
