Real Golf

I accepted that mid low singles was as good as I’d get without taking dedicated teaching lessons and putting a shit load of work in the game. I just suck ass at reading certain greens and atleast down here I often feigned ignorance when I would play courses with bent greens and then Bermuda greens.

But now as I age, the back and right knee start to bother me sometimes and that reverse pivot shows up when you get tired and everything goes to a timed swing and falls apart.
Yeah once my back starts getting tight and I lose some rotation everything goes to shit with timing. I’m good for maybe first 20 rounds a year then it’s anyone’s guess where the fucking ball is going to end up.

After hitting a few different sets, I bought a new set of Cobra clubs a few weeks ago because I needed new irons and for a few hundred bucks more I got new woods and a driver. I'm lucky to play one round a month normally, so no need for me to spend many thousands (yet) on super nice clubs.

I signed up to play on a team in my work league. 9 holes on Tuesday after work, normally play every other week. Last week was the first week I played (and hadn't hit any of my new clubs beyond the 20 minutes in the golf simulator) and man I sucked. Couldn't hit a drive to save my life, bad iron shots, horrible. Today I played again. Still awful drives (topping them, not making good contact, the usual) but my irons did a decent job of making it semi respectable.

On the last hole (a par 4 315), I topped the drive and it went maybe 130 yards. 6 iron for my 2nd shot put me to the right front of the pin and needed maybe 20 yards. Hit the 2nd best chip of my life and got within 8' of the pin. Putted in for par, won the hole, and fuck if that didn't feel amazing after how poorly I had been playing.

Some excellent golf being played today at Oak Hill.

Rahm is really really good on the mic calling some holes after his round. They should give him more opportunities in the future, he could have his retirement job!

Nance: they say he hits one bucket of balls a week

Rahm: and he's beating me by how many?

I laughed pretty good at that one. But yes he's very natural and provided interesting input. I'd love to see him do that more.
