Random Food Thoughts

What are some to seek out?

Im just starting to dip my toes into it. I was just surprised to see fishwife at my local grocery store.
I should add that our Central Market HEB has an excellent aisle of tinned fish. Pretty sure their Houston locations should as well.

I like to just pick up randoms when I go shopping.

Yep. Started here in Austin as a direct competitor to that other Austin-based supermarket... Whole Foods. But they emphasize "the best ingredients" rather than organics.
It’s maybe what I miss most from living in Texas. When I first moved to PA, people talked about a Central Market and I was very excited but turns out it was just a farmers market/food hall downtown. It was a great letdown.

Asking the masses: When you get a bagel with cream cheese from a bagel shop, do you eat it like a sandwich or separate it and eat it open faced?
Sandwich. That's the way it's prepared and that's the way it stays. I don't eat open faced bagels.

Also it will probably not surprise you that I am a ripper, in that I tear smaller pieces off to eat, as opposed to biting into the entire half.

But I never make them sandwiched myself and will consume open faced.
This is why I was thinking about it. I would never eat a bagel like a sandwich if I schmeared it at home. (And like Stabby I'm primarily a tearer.) Obviously it would be impossible for a store to serve it that way.
he everything is only on one side. Why would I want half of my bagel to not taste like everything?
Your bagels are only seasoned on one side?

The problem is once they are closed up it will mostly stick to one side. In terms of what is available ot me locally I have been really digging the new no frills spot that house makes their cheeses and compound butters and does no sandwiches. Everything is on the side. The fanciest item that have is a kit to make your own damn lox bagel.

This is a pet peeve of mine. They should schmear both sides so if you separate it, both sides have spread. I like to separate but when I'm driving, it's not the easiest (or safest) thing to do.
Everything is on the side
This is like St. Viateur. They make the bagels and that's it. No homemade spreads though.
Who hurt you?
I think the world has done that. Honestly, I just don't want to bite into a big gob of cream cheese. But also if I ate it as sandwich it would be gone in 4 bites. If I separate it, it's 8.
