My favorite bakery (Mindy’s) reopened at their new home a few weeks ago. We haven’t made it over there yet, waiting for lines to die down or for then to reinstate online preorders. Instead, they gifted me with a 6-item sampler menu at Foxtrot. Which I guess includes their DC and NYC locations as well(?), but I walked into their Sears Tower location this morning and nabbed this roasted onion and cheese bialy and two stoner cookies. God I missed this stuff. I wish they had the ham and cheese croissant but this bialy is heaven so I am gonna live.

What's a stoner cookie?

I made macarons again on Monday. They take a bit of time to make, but conceptually aren't particularly difficult. Taste damn good too. Of course, without thinking about it, I made them pink and since they didn't flatten out completely, they totally looked like breasts.

Freshly baked cookie with brown butter, toasted pretzel, and m&m's made locally by Mindy's Bakery and delivered fresh daily.

I feel like I'm used to flatter bialy with a much wider diameter.

Also I just realized today that I've been overcooking my sugar syrups since I moved to Colorado. Not sure this is a problem for anyone else, but when you are making candy or candy equivalent stuff (basically any time you are boiling something to a specific temperature), the temperature should actually be 10 degrees less than the recipe calls for because of the lower boiling point at this altitude. I had no idea I've been fucking this up everytime I've made stuff since coming here.

edit: I've known about adjusting baking powder, sugar, etc, due to rising issues, but not the above.

Here's a picture of those unfilled macarons just to add something else. Upside down though.

Apparently I am still thinking hard about not going to Mukwonago for Elegant Farmer apple pie after GTMW because I just sent my sister one for her birthday.

Fear didn’t post a haul pic of his birthday treats.
I was looking for some cookies to order because Sunday was hot and I needed that Benadryl day to get rid of the reaction on my arm. Ended up ordering a bundle via Goldbelly of cookies and babka.

Now, the place we normally get babka from has larger, fluffier loaves. And their hot chocolate babka is my least favorite of the ones I have tried (the pistachio cardamom and tres leches babkas are still absolutely worth writing home about). This little bundle of joy didn’t just get warm, but the outside got crispy like soft toast. Lots of chocolate filling. A+ with butter. Not pictured: chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies.

Baking season is just about here at which point I will be back at it. Have a coconut cream pie in my sights.

That looks a lot like Michaeli. Is that Michaeli?
