Watching the 4-man bobsled first run from yesterday. France had a rough first run (spoiler?) and the camera cuts to their coach doing surrender cobra. Just amused that this is a gesture that appears to be global.

Just looked up when the Winter Olympics began. 1924 was the first Winter Olympics so that would track.

The next Winter Olympics are a 220 miles from Milan. That’s less than driving to Detroit from Chicago.
I am honestly not mad about the focus on sending the Olympics back to past host citiies. It is a big cost to build facilities that have limited use. Reusing facilities and limiting upgrades required keeps hosting costs down. I am not saying new cities shouldn't host but also the idea of Chicago hosting the Summer Olympics when we have almost none of the needed facilities was a very stupid idea and I am glad Rio de Janiero got 2016.
