Mixed Drinks

For autumn, I like Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy. Or rye. Or both.

Do you have Yellow Chartreuse?

I like a Wicked Kiss. Or a Diamondback.

Similar, but requires lemon juice... Widow's Word.

For ultimate apple vibes, you can do a Stone Fence, which is apple cider, angostura bitters and the spirit of your choice. Again, I choose apple brandy or rye, but rum might make things interesting too.

What are your favorite, preferably batchable, autumnal cocktails?

Looking to go a little more refined for this year's thanksgiving signature cocktail.

This counts because I made it.
1 part ginger simple : 2 parts Laird's Apple Brandy BA Ragtime Rye : 3 parts good apple cider (not to Ina Garten you, but basically the good stuff without additives) : lemon juice to taste

We also did this with apple brandy after the rye ran out.

That said, this stuff is fucking amazing and you can do a lot with it.

I decided to play to the audience and went with a pomegranate martini, which read more like a pomegranate cosmo. 100% pomegranate juice, vodka, cointreau, and fresh lemon. Sanding sugar and rosemary to garnish. Went fine. I didn't love it. I made a bunch of last words and of course we drank barleywine.

No clue why it took until 2025 to start batching cocktails. Freezer door rosemary infused negronis were a hit yesterday.

Also made some badass mezcalitos. Didn’t want to add sugar or agave so added an apple and an orange for sweetness. Just blend up cucumbers, an apple, an orange, lemon juice, ginger and strain. Garnish with basil.

My homemade attempt at the December Moon cocktail I had earlier, basically an elevated Boulevardier. I know they used Cocchi. The closest I had for a rose was Dolin Rouge. I subbed out the extras with what I thought were the best bitters for the task.

Their's is better, more complex, rich, and I didn't have to make it.

Mine was better, it was cheaper.

Also, I am "watching" this thread but don't remember getting any notifications since boogercrack's recommendation request. #shruggie

Alright friends, long-winded question for the thread. My sister generally drinks vodka sodas, hard seltzers, or espresso martinis when she's out at a bar, but she became borderline obsessed with sunflowers when she'd come down to visit and I'd make them. She also likes other citrus-forward drinks, something like a daiquiri, but she *really* doesn't like anything spirit-forward. When she moved into her own apartment a few months ago I got her a basic home bar setup and all the bottles to make a sunflower as a housewarming gift. I guess she has some interest in broadening her cocktail horizon because she mentioned to me that she bought a book on cocktails but I guess it was one with a lot of really involved recipes with homemade infusions and such and that's definitely not her speed. Anybody have any recommendations for a straightforward cocktail recipe book I can get for her?

I like the Death & Co book because it has a lot of classic recipes and also some more involved stuff that you may or may not grow into.

There are probably better answers out there.

I still flip through the Death & Co book for inspiration occasionally, but end up looking at places like Diffords Guide, Liquor.com and reddit for ideas as well.

The Book of Cocktail Ratios by Ruhlman is fantastic and straightforward.

I don't (yet) have it but America's Test Kitchen has a cocktail book. Their recipes are generally accessible and have hints for substitutions so I would hope their cocktail book is the same.

sorry, can't help. I use the interwebs, Diffords Guide heavy, but probably should get a book.

The Death & Co book is perfect. SAISON FUCK is correct. It's also got a lot of stuff in it that will make her think about her own experiments in the direction she wants to go.

Thanks for the input all, I ended up going with The Book of Cocktail Ratios. I have (and love) the Death & Co book, but I feel like all the time spent on ingredients and process is a little bit more in depth than her current interest level. My hope is that this book gives her a few more recipes she can make and enjoy, and get her more interested in cocktails.
