Mixed Drinks

I agree 100% that Nonino and Aperol are the important bottles here. For bourbon in Paper Planes I have used anything from Elijah Craig to Buffalo Trace to McKenna BiB and Evan Williams BiB. It didn't really change the enjoyment of the cocktail at all.

If I don't have Nonino, I don't make Paper Plane.

Awesome. That’s what I was most curious about. The aperol and amaro nonino aren’t a problem to procure, but was curious if anyone felt a different bourbon profile or proof really stood out in that cocktail or refined it in a way it was noticed.

In my limited research the other day (just 3 differnet whiskeys), all I noticed was the higher proof subdued the lemon.

Tailspin

1.5oz Gin
1oz Green Chartreuse
1oz Sweet Vermouth
Dash orange bitters
Campari rinse

This is good. Very Chartreuse forward, which I don't mind at all. Some places use equal parts of the top three ingredients, but I imagine that might be too heavy on the Chartreuse, even for me. The Campari rinse definitely shows up and an important component in my opinion.

This one is in the classic cocktail section of the Death & Co book, but this is my first time enjoying it.

Oh dang, my favorite cocktail right now is a Bijou and I’ve never heard of this. Granted I don’t particularly love Campari so I’m not sure if the addition would be lost on me but I’m intrigued.

1.5 oz Amaro di ANGOSTURA®
.75 oz ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters
1 oz Simple Syrup
1 oz Lime Juice

You gotta love a recipe that asks you to remove the dasher top from your bottle of Angostura bitters.

I was a bit light on the simple syrup as I ran out, but it works at about .75 oz.

Spice 4 days.

I don't have any personally. People on the reddit say that putting a bunch of Angostura bitters in vodka and adding a bit of simple syrup is a good substitute, but I ain't got time for that silliness.

The bottle of Angostura di Amaro is less than $30, so if you like those flavors, it isn't a big investment IMO.
More about availability. AI mentions Averna or a Cynar concoction. FYI, I have a large bottle of Ango bitters with the dasher removed, thanks to all you degenerates.
