Let’s not talk about how much I just spent on Ian McKellan tickets at Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

Amazing time. He talked about his life, how he got into theater, different plays he had done. Read a passage from Fellowship, did a bang on impression of Christopher Lee, and because this was the Chicago Shakespeare theater there was a lot of Shakespeare. I did stage crew in high school so I tend to get too in the weeds of noticing I am watching a play when I see live theater, but this was just a brilliant actor, on a stage, telling stories and reciting Shakespeare with no set dressing. It’s quite a thing, an octogenarian convincing you he is a 14 year old girl, but his Juliet is quite good.
And more importantly, as much as we all love to shit on Navy Pier I can’t say enough nice things about the Chicago Shakespeare theater. Next time they have a show or event I want to attend I won’t hesitate. These two events I have gone to were great and it made for a pretty easy date night, even with the snow.
