Lets kick this shit off

For all of its warts, Dead Presidents is certainly in the running for MOST movie. Was a lot of fun hearing Allen Hughes speak openly about the industry in the 90s. Really cool guy.

The ensemble is fucking crazy. Some of the first movies for young Chris Tucker, Terence Howard, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Imperioli, and Freddy Rodriguez. There's a blink and you miss it bit with Keith David that had me laughing thinking about it well after the movie ended.

You ain't wrong cool breeze.

This past weekend I saw maybe my favorite and least favorite movies of the year.

The Christophers is another killer Soderbergh, again unlike anything else from his recent run of good-to-great films. Michaela Coel again goes toe-to-toe with a titan; in Mother Mary it's a two woman show with herself and Anne Hathaway. This time it's all Coel and Ian McKellen, who is also outstanding as an acerbic, even downright hateful, aging artist. Coel imparts so much emotion with subtle facial expressions, she often doesn't need dialogue to keep a scene going with McKellen's aggressive attempts at repartee. Funny, thoughtful work that subverts the expectations of a Soderbergh heist film after the familiar setup.

Presence -> Black Bag -> The Christophers is a really great run of movies in a short period. Throw in Kimi and No Sudden Move too and Soderbergh has been kind of back for awhile.

Desert Warrior is a very poor attempt at a historical sword and sandal epic by the Saudi investment fund "starring" totally checked out stars Anthony Mackie and Ben Kingsley as mainly secondary characters, alongside an array of familiar Saudi and Turkish actors. The movie has NO beats. It's so strangely paced it feels like it's five hours long. Very puzzling, extremely boring. Bad.

I did find it funny that part of the plot of The Christophers is Ian McKellan unsure whether or not he recognizes Michaela Coel, who is one of the most distinctive-looking people in movies.

Primm’s synopsis is always worthwhile.

Oh shit oh fuck

Nolan is the only film director that can activate the 70MM projector at the Cinemark in Pflugerville, TX in the burbs just to the North of here. I literally think they have a note on it that says "use only for Nolan films".

Tickets are out tomorrow for IMAX btw. Get 'em fast. I bet the entire run will sell out before the end of the week.

Bag secured for Odyssey in IMAX Dual Laser.

Fandango death loop for me
Luckily our IMAX is in a museum and they don't even know what a "Fandango" is. It just goes through the same ticketing system as exhibition tickets.

My coworker is going up to Cinemark Dallas to see it in 70MM IMAX (that's the only theater in the state that has it) and he had to settle on tickets at... 2:30AM!
