Saw this new Pflugerville brewery on r/Austinbeer. Weird they copied the name and concept from an existing brewery in Denver. I guess Prost isn't super unique but still.

I was going to say something about this on Reddit but held my tongue. I'm sure not too many people in the Austin area have been to Prost in Denver.

Their branding is pretty different though... it reminds me of what Prost was doing when I went there like 8-9 years ago. If anything it reminds me of Altstadt. The space they're moving in is pretty small and I think it will have more of a neighborhood bar feel to it (rather than Prost in Denver which is a straight up beer hall).

Even if Pflugerville/Austin residents aren't familiar with Prost Denver, the people starting this place definitely are. The "about" page specifically mentions how much beer experience the brewmaster(s) bring to the table, so there's no way they can play dumb.

I'm not advocating Stone-level aggressiveness when it comes to naming IP, but this just comes off as lazy.

Anybody could google the prospective name of their brewery to see if there is somebody else with the same name and whether it might become an IP issue. I'm not sure a small brewery near Austin and a larger brewery in Colorado that doesn't distribute out of state is a definite IP issue but if Prost has any desire to expand into Texas it's most likely going to become a problem.

The name is dumb. Why pick a German word and then pair it up with something more English-esque? It's just beer word salad.

Anyone familiar with Meanwhile Brewing? New in Austin and not quite open yet, but they did a dry hopped lager with St Elmo that’s very good.

Eagerly awaiting for them (and Pinthouse Brewing) to open since that's practically around the corner from my new place.

Very nice looking taproom from the curb. Gotta be opening relatively soon... they're already brewing:

Yep the pics on Instagram indicate it’ll be a nice spot

This is some real nerd shit right here, lol.

I have no idea why Banger's has been closed all this time.... their outside area is super ideal for the current restaurant climate and is pretty unique downtown.

I think Banger's is set up to be a packed spot and they want to operate that way. Thursday through Sunday and during any events, they also have a very specific Rainey party bro vibe. I'm guessing the management team realized this was not a safe operating model for staff or patrons.

That said, I agree with you and am shocked they've been closed since March. Seems easy enough to limit occupancy, shut down inside seating, and take advantage of that giant outdoor space. Just goes to show how much money is behind the Banger's name to be able to "comfortably" shut down for 7-8 months.

First out of state brewery I've been excited about for a while. These guys make solid malt beverages.

They're kind of a joke in San Diego, unless you really like Bro-Beer. But like many that expand distro, it's usually a lot of hype followed by only their core lineup rotting on the shelfs. Big old Yawn.

When did they start sending St Elmo Carl our in 6-packs? Just picked one up at the convenience store. Heck yeah,

Back in august. Needed to do something since kegging doesn’t make sense
Neat. They must not have done distro to my grocery store near my old place. I’m going to buy this constantly. Do you happen to know if Spec’s in south Austin has this on the shelves with a case discount so I can literally fill my beer fridge with it? If not I’m going to freakin find out lol.
