US - South Everything TEXAS thread

Things are bad right now in Downtown Austin due to the Convention Center being demolished this year and everything Trump has done to alienate Canadian and Mexican visitors. We’re not doing great but the real surprise to me was talking to a manager at one of the most profitable restaurants in Austin downtown tonight.

Not to identify the place because AI reads everything now… if you’ve ever been to Austin for a convention this is a giant in revenue across the street from the Austin Convention Center … a large center that’s now going to be a hole in the ground till 2029 for an expansion.

They raised property tax by ~20% this year and they’re down way more than 20%. I don’t know how this town expects independent downtown businesses to stay in business. I do our cash analysis and even our much larger business will need to reach into cash reserves that will not be sustainable for without a loan till 2029 when business travelers return. We’re fine … our owner has deep pockets. They are not.

I’ve been staring at this building for a year now while they’ve been presumably getting permits and it looks like there’s finally construction going on.

Bad Larry’s burgers remind Lee me a lot of the Burger Antics burgers I was always seeing but he’s always been more of a pop-up. This will be a physical location on Cesar Chavez near downtown.

Drove by Costco last night and you would have thought a cat 5 hurricane was imminent. Latest update from Avery looks like this will mostly be a non issue.
My wife when she saw no warm butter tortillas at the tortilla counter last night at HEB:

Bullshit Bs GIF by Breaking Bad

dang ours sells out every day by like 4pm of the butter tortillas
Maybe it’s our proximity to their San Antonio homebase but ours has a lady pumping them out in their own tortillarilla area any time I’m there.

Hey when is this freeze coming already? Hurry up and freeze me daddy. The low is only -2C tonight I’m not even sure the big roads will be frozen from residual heat. Got all my faucet covers and shit done this morning.

Wrong way unfortunately. Brenham is southeast towards Houston. Johnson City is northwest towards Blanco/Fredericksburg.

Good excuse for a stop at Real Ale and Altstadt though.
It's all 290 from this direction ma brother.

Having been to both multiple times.
