Cellaring and Vintage beer discussion

2012 Oud Beersel Kriek - muted fruit took on a weird almost chlorine flavor. Not terrible, interesting, but not improved.

2013 Tilquin^2 - nice and funky but not particularly vibrant which can befall old gueuze. Good but didn’t improve.

2014 Resurgam - muted and bland but a little sharper than the old TRB above.

I thought I liked old lambic but maybe not?

2017-18??? upright bioacoustics blend

Bone fucking dry

Sherry, dark fruit and leather nose also still super oaky.

This is aging beautifully. Initially was scared when I found this because it was such a treat fresh that I thought it had likely fallen off.

Looking forward to the other couple I found with this one.

Went through some old beer recently:

I have a 8 or so bottle lineup but no one wants to drink 8 bottles of Beat in one sitting, so I broke out a few bottles for a side by side:
2012 (Batch 5) - Oldest bottle I've purchased and last bottle. Flat, very slightly oxidized, but funky as hell
2013 - Again last bottle of this batch. Last few times I've had this, it was flat, but this fortunately had some mild carb. Still funky as hell and awesome.
2019 - Way less funky. My recollection was that things get less interesting after 2013 and this reaffirms that.
2022 - Impressively similar to 2019 but again, way less interesting.

So in summary, Beat used to be really interesting and wild, but it got reined in around 2015 and things are still good but not great.

More 2012 goodness, Bruery edition:

Sour in the Rye (2012) - Doesn't have that great rye character as I remember fresh, but holding up surprisingly well. I have had oxidized shitty bottles of this before, but this one was pretty good.

2012 Black Tuesday - Still has carb, no oxy. Very smooth and mellow. Quite nice.
