All Things Coffee

Today's coffee haul. Excited to try out the Oscar Hernandez filter roast.

current plan is to not swap out burrs because i still will do pour over. it will be cheaper / similar cost for me to add something like a Lagom Casa and get variation of conical and more traditional pulls.

hope everyone is making some good brews for the new year!
sharing my coffee corner update for 2025:

i added a Lagom Casa as soon as the 65mm version of their Mizen conical burr was made available. been using it a few months on all kinds of roasts and it's hard to fault. great size, as clean and simple for workflow as you can get, and grinds pretty quick with the larger burr set. mercifully, i avoided the stalling issue that a minority of people have experienced and supposedly cause by some poor QA on some of the burrs.

i also added the new Weber tamper because puck prep is annoying. it is awesome. too expensive. but awesome.

my recent fad are shorter-ratio Americano's. pull shots anywhere in the 1:2 to 1:4 range and bypass with 80-100g water. i think this style is somewhat akin to competition-style Aeropress with very concentrated brews then bypassed with water... except i'm getting the added benefits of espresso extraction. tastes fucking incredible on all variations of roasts and works with both of my grinders and their varying shot behavior. P100 for turbo on light, washed process roasts and Casa for everything else. this is probably my personal coffee style of choice moving forward and has made pourover pretty much pointless.

$350 burrs in a $100 grinder is pretty funny.

I found a Bunn lpg brand new on Craigslist like 16 years ago. Have used every day since.

My wife mentioned last week that the coffee didn't seem quite as good that day. That was my green light to upgrade!

Free shipping from south Korea took 3 days.

anyone got a preferred Latin -ish type of brand or something for Cuban coffee?

I’ve been pretty happy with la llave for basic ass shit, makes an incredibly strong pour for Cortaditos.

Wondering if there’s something else out there to try. We have milk warmer and frother that works great for cafe con leche with some nice foam, and we enjoy some exceptionally strong pours on the weekend.

This sold out pretty quickly last year and is back. Excited to try it and wanted to give the heads up in case anyone is interested. Far from a normal coffee.

Edit: this is most definitely not a response to fatcity.
Black and white has the same coffee for slightly less $. I ordered it as well for comparison.

I made a cup using my clever and mc6 grinder last night. It was really good, but my mc6, awesome as it is for espresso, didn't work great in this application. First time I've tried it for that. My wife has the bunn grinder filled with her beans - I'll dump it and try these again later this week. Will also try as espresso (standard and turbo).

This is quite nice, thank you for the rec! Sorry Dad, none for you.

Bought some cascara from Aida Battle (an awesome importer of unroasted coffee). Pretty neat stuff. Cherry and mint and some other herbs.

Got this based on your recommendation, I was surprised that they had it. The sent the wrong coffee at first and had to reship it.
Watermelon bomb, but I think the Revel is from another farm.
