Last day of Christmas vacation at the inlaws. We’ve got OceanOfMead ’s mom doing some home roasting beans with an old janky iRoast that I gave her to play with and she’s doing pretty well with it.

The local place is selling green beans for $12 a pound, which isn’t great, but I bet we can get her to mail order some.

I got the new Kalita MINO dripper for Christmas. Feels like a nice upgrade over my old stainless steel Wave dripper. Definitely getting a better bloom.

I got a ceramic one years ago and only use the stainless steel one when I take it on vacation.

Kalita changed the design of the bottom of the dripper in the MINO. They seemed to think it was worth the change.

Maybe ceramic produces a better cup of coffee, maybe the new design makes a difference, or maybe both.

Definitely a bit different and it looks like th holes are larger which would affect timing. I remember years ago a friend who owned a specialty coffee cafe and is a roaster told me how he drilled into the kalita holes to make them larger.




I think I’ll just need to buy one instead of going down a Reddit rabbit hole discussing the differences as I am sure there is one.
