All Things Coffee

I've been enjoying iced pour overs the past couple weeks. I've been doing around 40-50% ice. So basically brewing at about double strength right onto ice. I've found it to be nice a fruity cup, which is what I'm usually aiming for. Anyone else get into this? If so, any tips?

I do this from time to time.

I use a ratio of 30g coffee, 225g Ice, 225g water (form the Serious Eats article on Japanese-style iced coffee).

That's pretty dark!

I actually bought the roasted version of it from happy mug on our last order. It was really nice.

My wife likes their Colombian for drip, so we buy it all the time. Usually 2 2lb bags. Cannot beat $11/lb shipped for good, fresh coffee.

I usually toss in a couple 12 or 4 oz bags of random stuff when I order. In March I got a bag of Ethiopian from them that was an absolute blueberry bomb, the likes of which I hadn't had in years. The next two Ethiopians I ordered were back to just ok.

Yeah, I let this one get away from me a bit. But like I said, for me it doesn’t really matter with this bean. It was still really good.

Stopped by Brewing Good Coffee Company in Savage, MD (named for the carding mill that used to operate here and the coffee company is on the historic mill property.) delicious coffee. Beautiful space and they are an all vegan shop offering pastries and breakfast sandwiches. The cherry cobbler bun I got was a touch sweet but otherwise something I would order again.

happy to reach the end of the "coffee gear" journey yesterday with arrival of my espresso machine (Odyssey Espresso Argos) after over two years of waiting.

i didn't know shit about pulling shots but after 6-7 practice runs yesterday i'm feeling good about it and the machine is awesome. it's both easy to learn on as currently setup (with a 6 bar spring for long ratios and turbo shots for my light roasts) and then later i can grow into it as a direct lever with more control. the steam wand is obnoxiously powerful and more intimidating than the shots.

hooray for milk drinks! 🙏

Tis almost the season.

Any recs for coffee advent calendars? Was looking at the one from Onyx, but didn’t know if anyone had better experience with any others.
I absolutely love the one from Coffee Collective every year.
It’s a bag/week, so not something every day, but they put in fantastic stuff every time. I’ve gotten it the past 6 years now.

Awesome! Which burrs in the p100?

The argos seems like a pretty great deal. I should get my lever machine out again.

SSP Brew in red speed coating. i've had the grinder for about a year and a half and knew it would be a long long wait so i decided to max out on pour over/drip and leave nothing on the table with these expensive ass beans.

it is accurate that these burrs are not good for anything close to 6+ bar but the turbo shots still taste spectacular.

current plan is to not swap out burrs because i still will do pour over. it will be cheaper / similar cost for me to add something like a Lagom Casa and get variation of conical and more traditional pulls. i've done some shots using my Comandante with red clix and they have definitely pulled more normal but not quite as exciting as the flat burr turbos.

The casa seems like a great deal. Plus it will match! I'd kind of like to try a big flat some day, but I've been super happy with my mc6 for espresso.

So this is fun, the Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer is at it's lowest price yet, $201.70 .
I've gone ahead and ordered it to replace our aging Behmor Brazen brewer.

The "cool feature" of this brewer is that there is no pump, and the water needs to be boiling in order to make it's way over to the coffee, ensuring it's at the right temperature.

Ooh! Tempting. I never use a machine anymore, but maybe I can find a reason!

We really like ours (glass instead of the stainless carafe) and how we enjoyed the Coffee Collective advent.
