Pizza Pizza

No photos, but really enjoyed Tribute Pizza in San Diego last night. All of their pies are "tributes" to pies from other pizzerias. The grandma style pie with ricotta, garlic and caramelized onion was the winner for me. The salads and sides were also great.

This is not the greatest Pizza in the world, this is only a Tribute!

Finally made it to Albano’s in Cicero. Known for their housemade pizza puff.
What have we done?

Lmao this thing is a monster. We selected sausage and mushroom for today’s puff,

Cheese, mushrooms and sausage just kept oozing out. It will take 2-3 days for the two of us to finish this thing. I will say I enjoyed the pastry on this so much more than the packaged and fried puff typical to most Chicago pizza shops. This is a different kind of gut bomb I recommend you grab a friend or four and experience at least once.

Huh. Chicago thing?
Yes. A normal pizza puff is like a deep fried hot pocket with puff pastry dough. They use shitty hormel pepperoni and as someone who grew up eating pepperoni rolls I loathe them. I put this place on my list to try thinking it would change my mind and it did.

This housemade beast was made with thick rough puff so it was almost like a giant pizza pasty. But for the price I was expecting it to be a third the size it was. It hit the table and I started laughing. How do you eat this? (In a group or over several days, apparently). The good news is that it reheats well in the toaster oven and goes great as a side to salads. Which you definitely need with all that cheese.
But it is bigger than any stromboli/panzerotti/stuffed pizza I have ever seen. Now I want to know how big their $35 giant pizza is.
