Random Music Thoughts / Opinions / Annoyances / Guilty Pleasures / Rants & Raves

Folks, I am proud to announce that this year I have gotten 5 lines on the Coachella poster.

I’d like to thank CMAT, Lambrini Girls, Slayyyter, Röyksopp, The Chats, Mind Enterprises and WhoMadeWho for making this happen.

I wonder what that Radiohead thing is? Just them chasing random people through the desert?

Kid A is 25 years old today.

I don't have many recollections of specific days of my life from that far back, but I do remember October 2, 2000 because I was working at the record store that day & remember there actually being a lot of people coming in to buy the CD, which at that point had become pretty rare, even for new releases.

I'll still say Kid A is my favorite Radiohead album 99 times out of 100.

Check this clown out. LMAO

Judge threw out the case today.

Judge Jeannette A. Vargas said:
Although the accusation that Plaintiff is a pedophile (LOL) is certainly a serious one, the broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by both participants, would not incline the reasonable listener to believe that ‘Not Like Us’ imparts verifiable facts about Plaintiff.

KEXP Listeners' Favorite Albums of All Time

I called #1, but was pretty surprised In Rainbows made the top 10 over Kid A.

Some notable snubs called out on the KEXP Discord. No:

Weezer (shocked at no Blue album)
XTC
Tom Waits
Yo La Tengo
White Stripes
Wilco (except Mermaid Avenue)

What a fascinating list. Wasn't too shocked about Weezer until I opened the link and saw it was a list of 738. Not going through that all, at least not now, but a few quick ctrl-f searches....way to go PJ Harvey.

I'm not entirely surprised to see In Rainbows over Kid A. Was just talking to a guy last week, Radiohead is his all-time favorite band, and he said In Rainbows is his favorite from their discography; not the first time I've heard that from big time Radiohead fans either. I dunno, it was the last of their albums I got and it didn't hit the same for me, but I could definitely see this being a case of the type of fans who would have three Radiohead albums in their top 15 ranking their discography in a different order than someone like me who might have two in their top 100.

So thanks to some sleuthing from us nerds on the KEXP discord & subreddit, the list has now been updated. They did, in fact, accidentally omit pretty much everything from Th - Z. The list is now at 810 entries, up from 738.

The blue album is now at #51 (and Pinkerton #307). The highest-ranked omission was The Joshua Tree, which is now at #9.

Kate Schellenbach made a really cool post on the Luscious Jackson substack about the early days of the Beastie Boys. Some of this is covered in the Beastie Boys Book, but a lot isn't. It's also cool to hear it told from her perspective.

In case you're not familiar, Kate was one of the original Beasties.

To be clear, this is in the UK, not the US (at least for now). I DVR some shows from various MTV Classic (120 Minutes, 90s Nation, Rock Block) and throw them on whenever I can't be bothered to look for something else to watch. Hopefully it'll stick around in the US, but I don't put any faith in that happening long term.

I thought MTV just played 24 hours of Ridiculousness these days
