Show me the Honey (wine)! The official Mead, Honey Wine, Biere de Miel and Honey Spirits thread.

I feel the same about other releases from other places, too, so it’s not just Schramm’s. I have been cutting back and curating what I am holding on to. I don’t want or need another Pancake/muffin/french toast mead. Miss me with all of the breakfast pastries for quite some time. I have more than enough.

I still can't get over that Lord Jim and also The Rebuttal just sit on shelves.

Next up--shelfie Heart of Darkness.
It’s crazy. I love LJ. But to Franks point: it’s become very expensive with so many meaderies putting out good quality products. So now I only buy stuff I absolutely know I like and stopped just buying something because it was new or hyped. Example, it’s been months since I bought a Pips but just bought a 12 bottle shipper of Schramm’s “Shellie’s” like ginger, nutmeg, & LJ for the holidays:)

I’ll buy something if it sounds of interest or in my wheelhouse. To that point that scotch barrel Brimming Horn trad is the best thing I have had in ages. I accept it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s mine.

For those not in the know.... indulge me on what's happening
Going from a low-cost, no bottles included in membership to a high cost, 6-bottles included membership, adding a ciders and seltzer meads side label. It’s a growth model and that is ultimately where Matt was heading while everyone bitched about how it was rude of him to keep the meadery so small when they needed access to whales, too. It pissed me off because aside from rmalinowski4 Matt is the nicest person I know. Not even a contest.

I am finding I am already not buying a ton of product and have little to nothing in common with the current freshman class of Aces and Eights so it is a good time to get out for me. I mostly just hang out at Goldfinger and Standard close to home and drink easy drinking sessions or cocktails. I may or may not join Standard when it comes back up just to guarantee party tickets so I can have infinity mead & malört cocktails.

Eh. I'll renew.

I’m hoping that cost will include the party. Would make it more reasonable. Even if it doesn’t, still probably will renew - in large part for the party.
Doesn’t sound like it does.
While the tiers will have that subtle difference, the cost of each tier to renew is still the same. The reason for that is the $400 renewal isn't meant to be a fee for the right to spend more money. It is a charge for the bottles that are going to be included as a part of the 6 bottles provided through the course of the year.
I looked at the last release and thought to myself “ugh, not another Toppling Goliath barrel.” i don’t want to be pre-bought into 6 bottles of TG barrels and pancake meads.

I heard this has “fallen off” since it was fresh, but I can’t imagine it ever tasted like anything other than a s’more. Maybe it tasted more like real chocolate instead of Hershey’s but it’s got a strong Hershey’s and marshmallow vibe and something that might be a graham note. It’s an experience

For the Pips members, thoughts on the announcement?
I think I’m out too. I love Matt, wish him the best, and love supporting him, but I think I’ve only bought 2-3 bottles in the past year. I’m just not his demo anymore, especially not at that price point.

I’ll happily visit his taproom for session mead all day. But gone are the days when I want to solo done a full bottle.

I am excited about the session mead and ciders, but in 2023 there’s almost no reason people should be paying $40+ for most mead. There’s so many meaderies making incredible product and everyone is scaling up that gone are the days of mead being small bottle counts with incrediblely unique ingredients you can’t find anywhere else.
