SCIENCE!!! (and Technology)

I've been seeing more and more of these ARGO AI autonomous vehicles around downtown... that or I was blind to it for years.

They seem to have a ton of capital. I guess they're collecting data for Ford/Volkswagon from looking at their webpage.

At least they tend to have a person behind the wheel (and an actual wheel for someone to grab onto). I used to see these Google "mouse" cars all the time when I worked in North Austin driving in the neighborhood behind my office. And you'd always see a dude inside typing away on his laptop not paying attention to anything going on around him.... which is kinda scary at a 4-way stop sign (they always waited to see what you were going to do even if they had the right of way).... They seemed to just be doing laps around the neighborhood as I'd always seem them in the same spots...

I rode in an autonomous Lyft Aptiv car in Vegas with @MarkIntihar and there were two guys who worked for Aptiv "piloting" to explain everything that went into it. The guy you saw on the laptop was probably actually working. Our guy had all of the unintelligible data running on his screen, which he tried explaining to us but I'm dumb and was drunk so it was like Mandarin. For legal reasons, they had to take control of the car on any resort property so the ride was only half autonomous since we were only going down the strip. Nothing like the drama of a self-driving car as it approaches an intersection with a green light but 5,000 people are in the crosswalk.

So basically when the sun sets, the part of the earth that is dark radiates the heat back out into space that it was soaking up all day. Australian scientists figured out that you could capture this heat for energy. Seems like potential to greatly increase the efficiency of solar power.

I look forward to my Apple charging pants

This is awesome. Sounds like packaging is still a challenge to be addressed but the closer we can get to realizing this while simultaneously reducing the impact and waste of solar cell production (i.e. one of the classic arguments against it that I'm not validating, just pointing out) the better! Plus hell yeah Dyneema! Not just for ultralight backpacks anymore!

Those pants would definitely give you extreme ball cancer, right?
It's okay I'm sure our balls are already all rotting off with cancer from 802.11 wi-fi, Bluetooth, or some other shit that's become ubiquitous for 20+ years that we haven't figured out yet.

Quick brag…

Pair of my students placed second at the international science fair last weekend. I’m sure you can track down their project info if you were so inclined. However, their project deals with developing a cure for Parkinson’s.
Checked it out. Fascinating. Good for them, that’s just awesome
