Let's All Go to the Movies

Forrest Gump is on AMC right now and all I can think about is him much hippies fucking suck.

And apparently there is a sequel to the original book that is insane.
I mean, the original BOOK is insane compared to the movie. He goes to space with an ape name Sue and crash lands on an island with cannibals. I guess they couldn't figure out how to fit that into the screenplay.

Watched Unforgiven for probably the hundredth time tonight.

The last half hour might be favorite last half hour of any movie*. Not saying it’s my favorite movie ending but from when Eastwood says “It’s a hell of a thing killing a man” through the end is just fantastic.

*I would also entertain the last half hour of Boogie Nights if you cut out the happy part starting when God Only Knows starts to play.

Gene Hackman is so good in that movie.

Just realized that both Unforgiven and Boogie Nights have characters named Little Bill.

There's a good oral history on Boogie Nights: https://grantland.com/features/boogie-nights/

Nina Hartley had an interesting quote: "Macy didn’t treat me like a leper. He treated me with respect and professionalism. And I really appreciated that, because except for the people in the makeup trailer, no one else really spoke to me. Wahlberg, on my first day of shooting, came up and said hello; he talked to me for five minutes and then walked away and that was it. And Julianne Moore came in the makeup trailer one time, looked in my direction; I couldn’t read the expression on her face and she left quickly thereafter. But none of the female performers came up to me and said, “Hi, hope you’re having a good time.”

Speaking of batshit movies, I turned off the Sixers game last night and watched Ten to Midnight with Charles Bronson. I think I remember hearing about how nuts this movie is (and that’s only a slight reference to the fact that killer murders chicks in the nude with his cock just hanging out for most of the film) but this movie is insane. Ebert gave it a 0/4. Worth a watch just for the scene where Bronson confronts the killer with what can only be described as an early 80s prototype of a Fleshlight. Not for children. On HBO Max.

This movie really hit me. In my recollection, Jeana Tomasina was always far and away the best ZZ Top girl. But here the fantasy comes crashing down. I‘d like to be generous and attribute it to great acting, but I think I just had suspect taste as a kid.

Watching Sideways and wishing Paul Giamatti would make a whole lot more content. Like maybe a show with the same character.
He does play a NY DA (or something similar) in Billions. I think I watched the first season or so, but found it hard to care about the hedge fund premise
