What are you reading?

Just finished this and really enjoyed it. Ana, the 15 year old main character, narrates her story about life in DR, and then New York, in 1965. There are a couple of predictable events, but it's a well written story and I was rooting for Ana the entire time. I don't necessarily agree with the end but I also don't disagree with part of it either.

Now I'm going to switch direction with this, which I picked up yesterday. (I believe it actually just came out this past week.)

I finished it in about 10 days. I originally tried to do a chapter/character per week, but yeah the Norma, Brando and Munra chapters I had to break up some. It was very intense and yeah the structure felt dizzying at times but really made it feel more involving in a way.

A 200 page book has never taken me that long, lol.

Wild book. Alarmingly disturbing.

After slamming two Melchor books I'm cleansing the palate on some horny fantasy bullshit my wife suggested as quick filler.
Finally picked Hurricane Season back up and finished it. Man, I thought Paradais was dark, this took that to a new level. I did like how the story slowly was told through everyone’s personal story. The witch reveal was interesting, made me wonder if I missed something in the beginning, but I am not rereading it. Her writing style is tough particularly in this book, but I’m glad I finished it.

After Project Hail Mary I’ve been really thinking hard if someone could make a movie out of the Bobiverse novels by Dennis E Taylor that I’ve been reading the past decade.

I love those books but it might be even harder than bringing Rocky to life to bring Bob to life.

Apparently Lord/Miller optioned the novel a few months ago (which is more of an exploration of making it rather than full production). It would honestly probably make a neat Amazon Prime Video series moreso than a movie if that goes anywhere.

Jack Quaid needs a job, right? I think he’d be a perfect Bob.

Finally done reading this. Meant to finish it sooner, but work was exhausting, I got sick, and then so did the cat.

Anyway, if you were a 90s music kid like me, you'll probably enjoy this literary backstage pass and behind the scenes account. I still don't know if I would personally get along with Courtney Love, but toward the end I feel like maybe I could.

The parts I enjoyed the most were about Melissa's family, growing up in Montreal, and how her parents influenced her ways of life.

Starting this next.

If you're looking for a wild emotional ride through capitalism, dystopia, modern day slavery in the form of the carceral system, and more, please read Chain Gang All-Stars (pictured above). Wow. You will root for the characters despite knowing their past and it will infuriate you because there are so many parallels (some mentioned, some not) between the story and today's bullshit.

Really good.

This was a nice read set in India in the 50s.

you don’t find out the main characters age until most of the way through the book. Pretty sure it was intentional. She goes through so much of her life and you find out she’s only 30.

Just finished Revival. I’ve read quite a few King books, many are scary, or have very scary moments (like the Lincoln Tunnel in The Stand). But the ending of this one takes the cake. I’m going to be thinking about this book for a while.
