The Official Dog Pix Thread

I may have to check out spot. I get a discount for Met Life from my work, but they suck at paying in a timely manor.
We also do met life because the work discount. They were real bad with paying out claims over the winter, but we’ve put in 3 over the past month or so and all have been paid within a week. Whatever was causing delays seems to have been resolved for us at least.

Good to know. I have not had to submit a claim since January. It took a while to get that one reimbursed

Hug your doggos. He was an asshole but he was our asshole. He lived a very long very great life.

Thank you. I feel so bad I’m out of town. He was almost 17 years old, but it still sucks.
17 years is impressive. Doesn’t make the loss any easier. And going home to that emptiness is gonna suck. Feel your pain man and sorry for your loss.

our girl will be 12'ish this year and she's showing her age. not moving as fast. has torn cruciate ligaments in both back legs in the last few years so getting up and down is a labor sometimes. walks are slower. no more running.

been thinking about getting a pup (1'ish years old) to in part give the old girl some juice/energy, a partner to the end, and a bridge for all of us because not having a dog in the house will be weird.

she's great with everyone. kids, other dogs, cats. never been an issue in the slightest except for maybe being too excited and overwhelming when she was younger... not worried about her in terms of welcoming a new dog but any advice from folks who have attempted bringing a new puppy'ish dog into a house with an older dog?

anything you wish you knew before making the leap?

Based on our experience, I think we waited too long. We got Margaux at 8 weeks and Izzy and Sonny were WELL into their senior years. They really ended up tolerating her, but resenting her. If you're looking for another pup with the goal of getting your senior moving more, do it sooner rather than later. That is the only regret that we had, but we also can't imagine our life without Margaux. When we had Tripp as a foster, he was super sweet around Sonny and Tripp was around a year so maybe the fact that you're looking at that age and not a young puppy will help.

Only thing I wish I knew before getting Margaux was how much of a dumbass I was for thinking we could just casually raise a puppy. Good god it's way more work than we ever expected.

been through "early" stages but never anything like 8-10 week old puppy. not as an adult. 1 year seems to be the sweet spot for: potty trained, obeying some commands, sleeping through the night, etc.

my last memory of puppies is them just chewing on everything, pissing in the house and barking like mad all the time. i'm too old for all that.
