Agreed. The year sub is still a decent bit cheaper and I've subbed for a while now, but it still feels annoying to pay that much at once and be locked in.

I don’t know if I told you guys this ever but I once flew to Baltimore (to Otakon) for the sole reason that Yoko Kanno was doing a concert on piano. This was 20 years ago now.
Her playing the Escaflowne theme live will forever live rent free in my head.
I love her and the Seatbelts. So much.

Only Mr Gundam will likely end up getting this but I had a friend that worked for Otakon and ended up working in their finance dept for 2 years in college. I’ve literally never seen so much cash in the same room since (that company made bank) and my own fandom at the time was worth 2 weeks of work per year plus perks, free hotel, access and resume items.
They literally had a theater setup in that convention center that played all the Ghibli films during the convention in 35mm. English Subbed sent directly from Ghibli. That’s where I hung.
I ended up at and afterparty playing Guitar Hero against Yoshiki from X JAPAN one year while extremely intoxicated.
Another year we had L’arc~en~Ciel perform live in concert and I met all those guys. Holy shit haha.

My daughter and I went to see the full scale VF-25 Valkyrie from Macross Frontier at Sky Tree in Tokyo.
And we all saw the Nu Gundam type-F outside LaLaPort in Fukuoka.

Also, Yoshiyuki Tomino continues being a real one calling out Putin, Trump, Takaichi for being shit and also calling out a big portion of the Gundam fanbase for completely missing the whole anti-war and anti-fascist message the series has been preaching since day one.

Very cool. I found an Escaflowne cel at Mandarake in Fukuoka but it was $2,000 and I also don’t know what I’d do with it.Mr Gundam Ive been cleaning up my garage this week and look what I found in a box. Forgot where these had gone when we last moved.
Picked these up over 20 years ago from an eBay seller in Japan.
