The Doctor Who thread

Interested to watch all the internet complainers complain … because that was some RTD-ass Who with 5x the normal budget. The new opening sequence is absolute money in 4K.

Looking forward to next week.

As a side note is Disney even trying at promoting this? I didn’t know what time it would be on (found out from the BBC feed). No adverts on Google TV at all (which is practically standard for MCU/Star Wars shows). No stars out promoting that I’ve seen. It’s weird!

Donna didn’t die! Yay!

Watched it last night, how old was Rose supposed to be? Their character seemed written like a little kid but they’re clearly much older.

Also, episode felt incredibly rushed at times.

15 iirc (this may have only been in the behind the scenes can’t remember). Actress would have been around 18-19 during filming.

😿

Pretty bad Christmas episode.
Wasn’t my favorite, but as someone who generally does not love “Christmas episode” as a genre of DW, I thought it was fine? Ticks all the boxes it’s supposed to: child-friendly-ish and a bit corny, can be a standalone episode, does some work to establish the new companion so that when Disney+ ramps up the marketing machine next spring all the new people won’t be bothered with this portion of the backstory.

My only real complaint is that the goblins eating the “ingredients” of the baby doesn’t comport with the goblin king eating the whole baby (what a weird sentence that is), but also having come into DW in 2006 during saturated RTD times I’m not at all surprised that that’s a logistic he just waved away. RTD has never been as invested in the logistics and mechanics as Moffat was and he’s much more of a “mood” person and I think the mood of this episode was appropriate.

7pm on Disney+. Midnight in the UK on BBC iPlayer (they're pissed about that).

The lack of anybody in the US anticipating this is... pretty palpable IMHO.

Favorite YouTuber I-hate-everything-content conspiracy right now is that Disney agreed to fund Doctor Who as part of their overall Bluey deal on the down low.

I've been enjoying the season thus far. It's far better than the Chibnall era that was basically like trudging across a mud pit to get through sometimes for me.

Really funny hearing people complain the show is "too woke." Bruh, go back and watch those old 2005-era RTD episodes again. It's been pretty gay. Haha.
