The 3D Printing Thread

Would have been a quicker swap if I had taken out the dessicant and not spilled some.
You print anything cool lately?

I've been working on my 3D modeling. I'm trying to make a vent that can go under my garage door for a portable AC in there that I got for cheap on Prime Day. I've seen some ducts for laser cutters that do that but need more air flow so I'm designing my own. It's basically going to be a big box with a 1" vent at the end that makes an "L" under the door. I tested with a book and the garage still seals with that size of a print under it. I calculated it will need to be ~28" long at 1" tall to retain the air flow of a 6" circular vent.

Been working on tutorials for Plasticity which is a more 3D printing focused CAD program I bought last year. Getting there.

Otherwise I've been printing glow-in-the-dark spiders and toys for trick-or-treaters anytime I am near the printer. I need 32 or so for my son's entire daycare and then about 100 more for trick-or-treaters I figure. Little flexi Rexis, spinners, and ghosts. Really liking Luminous Rainbow PLA from Polymaker which changes colors as you print and is glow-in-the-dark. It retains the color it glows in in daylight too which I've never seen in another filament. The color change makes it really simple to make a large amount of things in many different colors as it prints since it always stops at a different color on the top/bottom.

Halloween decorations for the most part. Finally using the spool of Pumpkin Orange I bought. I might do some more glow in the dark stuff. I bought some lights from the Bambu sale along with their TPU 95 in blue (not a TPU color I currently have).

I also printed a travel box for the game Splendor in silk PLA that turn out great. As you know, slowing down the speed really makes it shine.

I'm trying not to buy more filament even though there is some really cool Polymaker stuff these days.

BambuLab Black Friday sale prices dropped.

H2D will be on sale with a discount ($1749 or $1999 w/ combo) and free shipping. That's gonna tempt the fuck outta me.

If any of you guys lurking looking at printers for your kids the A1 Combo for $379 is a heckuva deal. I'd pick that up over the slightly smaller A1 Mini.

I printed one of those disc things once and it reminded me why I don't do a ton of multicolor right now.

Took forever and burned soo much filament.

Definitely getting a toolchanger next year though for The Year of Toolchanging™. That tech is going to be everywhere very soon and not just in 500-hours-to-Assemble Voron Printer Kits and $5k Prusa XL machines. We should be seeing both the Bambu Vortek and Prusa INDX systems working at FormNext next month.

Ooof. The Bambu H2C is slower than my MMU3 at changing filaments. 40 seconds.

The toolchangers from Bondtech/Prusa and Snapmaker are going to be running circles around this thing. INDX is something like 7 seconds. I would just take the time hit and stick with having 1 nozzle of the H2D cut/change filaments with the AMS rather than spending any more cash. Keep the 2nd nozzle as your support filament.

Prusa's Core One INDX finally revealed. 4 and 8 toolhead configurations for $499/$699 as an upgrade. The larger Core One L will be getting them as well later with even more toolheads.

Only available as a kit for now (and the first batch sold out before I even woke up this morning)

This thing is getting turned on next week:

WAAM, I'm guessing?

I've been mostly making Christmas decor for the office lately. Moving my stuff to the garage soon (my wife is working from home at her new job so I'd like to give her some more room in the office) so I've been looking at transitioning to enclosed printers as well. Probably will upgrade the Prusa to a Core One and will likely trade in the A1 for a newer Bambu model. I've been having a lot of AMS troubles on that thing lately because I think one of the motors is going out.

Santa please bring me some gift cards to Prusa/Best Buy. lol.

Yep. We're going to be making some very large parts.
