The 3D Printing Thread

A couple of deals on CAD programs that my co-worker told me about for those interested in your own designs:

Solidworks Maker: https://www.solidworks.com/solution/solidworks-makers
$24/year

Plasticity: https://www.plasticity.xyz/#pricing
$150, one time fee
Thanks for posting this probably going to pick up Plasticity. I have been using Fusion 360 but been watching some tutorials on that and it seems more on my speed.

Fusion 360’s commercial license is also stupid money if I ever come up with the world’s greatest design. Plasticity includes commercial.

Bummer! I've had the most issues with PLA Silk. Must have been a poorly wound spool.
Interested to see if it was the Bambu metal filamemt or the Elegoo one that jammed up. That stuff is such trash and so soft but it gives such a good look un-painted.

I’ve got a Sunlu PETG in there being a clown as supports too but I’ll be really surprised if that’s the issue.

Owning the software is so appealing these days when almost every company is pushing subscriptions.

Ugh. It was the stupid PETG and it stringed all over the place. That’s what I get for trying to stretch filaments being clever.

Print stopped for now. Ordered some different filament. Will return to later this week.

This silk filament sucks too (but is so pretty unfortunately). People use only this stuff? If it was a Dragonball character it would be Yamcha. People that say this stuff isn’t art have never worked with these paints hahaha.

Quite large relative to the AMS. It also looks tapered from bottom to top.
It looks like the K2 honestly. The AMS (er, "CFS") also looks small on top of that machine. That's a 350x350x350 build volume machine.

The armchair critics think they see a dual nozzle setup in there btw. I saw people hitting the photo with IR filters and everything. Hahah.

We tried some of basf's stainless-filled material in our printer a few years ago and it was pretty decent (you send the green parts out for debinding and sintering).

Looks like Bambu is getting into this market. It's nice to make functional metal parts without a $3/4M machine.

They just got done and they’re about 10x nicer than the last ones I bought at Home Depot in terms of strength too. PETG with almost no infill.

Bout $1 in filament.
How long did they take to print? This thread is really making me think about 3D printing in 2025 as a new money waste/maker.
