I’m overdue for an update…
Thai boat noodles. This was with wide flat noodles but I usually prefer it with the really fine noodles (thinner than vermicelli).
Vegan ramen, which I un-veganized by adding an ajitsuke tamago.
“Fat intestine noodles” – pork bung. Delicious.
Dumpling ramen with a sidecar of toro chashu and onsen tamago.

The Korean place I used to go to for sundubu closed but I found another place that I like.
鸭血粉丝汤 – duck blood and vermicelli soup. Had this during my visit to NYC last year at Yoz Shanghai in the New World Mall in Flushing. I was surprised at how different the texture of duck blood is from pig blood.
Kinda cheating since I always order this “dry” (soup on the side), but mì Triều Châu, which is a Teochew-style soup served in Vietnam. I’ve only been able to find here it at Cambodian restaurants.

Seolleongtang – ox bone soup. This is a weekly meal for me now, especially because you add the salt yourself and I find most restaurant food to be over-salted.
Kimchi-jjigae. I love the taste of kimchi but this uses a less silky tofu than sundubu so I usually stick with the latter.
Thai-style kway chap, another Teochew soup. Rolled up rice noodle sheets with crispy pork skin, pork tongue, and pork intestine.
Kuay teow moo toon, another Teochew-inspired Thai dish. Had this in Svalbard of all places.

Pretty cool little Asian community been building up around the UniversityOnly 1 soup for me today. Hand pulled noodles and beef flank soup. Damn good. Out in Kasher country (Splendid Noodles in Stony Brook).
Nice. I don’t really know that area but newsday has been raving about this place and I had a doctor’s appointment in Smithtown at 11:00 so I took the opportunity to give it a go. Need to go back for the offal.
Thai street food spot opened across from my office. Got Tom Kha for lunch and ate it without any pics. Maybe next time. I will be back there.

I was hungover this morning and needed pho. In a city that it's impossible to trip over your feet without falling into a Vietnamese restaurant, Cuu Long Quan is my hidden secret. In a shitty neighborhood, I parked today and opened my door and there were like 10 broken beer bottles in the next spot.
The western side of Houston gets the most rep for Asian food, but east end has some bangers too. This place is actually on the same street as my refinery, lol. Don't tell anyone. It's honestly better than a lot of the hype places. Filled with old Vietnamese people every time. ZFGs on presentation but amazing and inexpensive.
A small bowl of the special (steak, brisket, meatballs, tripe, tendon) and some pork and shrimp spring rolls (i already ate one).
Honestly the broth here is probably in my top 3 in Houston. And it's real quick and fast from work and like $8. Cheaper than McDonald's. Amazing. The old man who owns the place hosts and waits. He knows me and doesnt even bother with a menu. He's been trying to teach me to order in Vietnamese, lol. The Com Dia plates, bo luc lac, and hu tieu choices are all excellent.

Taiwanese spicy beef and tendon noodle soup. So good and tendony.
We have been eating on this Jose Garces Ecuadoran Chicken Stew recipe this week while I have had a cold. We did skip homemaking fresh hot sauce in lieu of sauce we have on hand but the soup is lovely and we’ll make it again.
