Real Golf

I got my ass kicked today buy a 70 year old retired postman who hit every fairway at 195 yards, rarely missed dribbling it up on greens in regulation, and putted lights out.

Role model.

My favorite golf story is the one time I had a dinner bet going with a friend on the back nine after I couldn't find the fairway the entire front half. He was a bomber off the tee but had no touch. I pulled my dad's old 5W out of the bag and hit 180yd stingers from every tee, incluring two par 5s.

Beat him by 5 strokes.

I went to hang out with a buddy this weekend and played an 18-hole executive course with them. I hadn't swung a golf club in more than 20 years. Shot an 89 on a par 58.

I was mainly just focused on trying to repeat a swing and make good contact. I hit the green in one on 3 holes, but I have no idea how to putt. I hit pretty well with a 6 and 7 iron. I have no understanding of a pitching wedge, though my best shot of the day was with it where I posted up about 3 feet from the hole from about 50 yards.

When they said they wanted to go golfing, I was very hesitant and nervous. The last time I played with my boss and his father on a regular course, they made me stop playing after the first 9 and I was really fucking embarrassed, which is probably why I stopped playing (and not too long later my clubs got stolen).

But I had a fucking blast! It was super low-key, with great company on a pretty nice, albeit hot, day. My father has a set of clubs he told me I could borrow anytime, and honestly, I kind of want to just go to a range and knock some around. All my bad shots (most of my shots total) were completely expected, but when I made good contact and got nice lift on the ball, it felt great.

Anyway, carry on, just felt like sharing the experience of a no-experience golfer.
howdy! Since this post, my father has given me his set of clubs, so now they're mine. In the last 6 months, I've played 4 rounds, hit the driving range twice, hung out at Top Golf and set up a net in the backyard. I'm really enjoying the game. I've been a disc golfer for like 20 years, and always kind of enjoyed watching golf, as I grew up in the Tiger-Prime era.

I played a round last weekend and crushed with my driver and 3&5 woods. I think I hit 15/18 fairways. However, I have no clue what I'm doing with my 6-9 irons, wedges (though I'm ok out of the sand?!?) and putting. I hit GIR on 3 holes though. I had 2 natural bogeys. I hit the best shot of my life out of the trees, over the crik, between the sand traps and up on the green to putt for birdie on a par 5. 3 putted it, lol.

Anyway, I'm feeling a bit more confident about playing and I'm going out with a buddy this weekend.

There's no real reason of purpose for this post, just saying that I'm enjoying the game.

I guess I'll add this- Does anyone have a recommendation on an app or something that might be free or cheap that can help me work on my game from my net in the yard?

Rory's Masters dinner menu. I'll take one of everything.

This morning at the Texas Children's Houston Open I followed around Min Woo Lee/Adam Scott/Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka/Knapp/Thorbjornsen and a little Harris English because hes a personal favorite.

Im sitting at 1 with a beer about to follow Shane Lowry/Rickie Fowler and Wyndam Clark for most of their round.

The access you get at pga events always blows my mind.

I need to stop standing on the left rough of drive landing zones, Wyndham Clark has almost hit me twice.

But hey I know what his ball marking is now so people were like "who's ball is that" and I look pretty bad ass looking at the sharpie and say, that's Wyndham Clark.
