Rauchbier

Not to blow up this thread in the middle of the night, but... Sensate Smoked Helles from Suarez is utterly fantastic. And now I'm realizing, from their description, you can impart smoke from yeast harvested from a rauchbier? And so THAT is why Schlenkerla Helles tastes like that despite using no smoked malt? Man...

Sensate is indeed awesome but I believe Schlenkerla Helles is smoky because it is brewed on the same equipment as everything else and the smoke flavor is just ingrained into all the equipment. that's what I was told at least.

I have also heard this, but brewing is so much about cleanliness that this also doesn’t really make sense. Maybe it’s both

Can we get a proper review? That looks cool.
It mainly just caramelizes the foam, which tastes like a campfire toasted marshmallow for a minute or two after. It doesn’t seem to affect the taste of the beer much, but the foam/beer combo is really nice together. We hung around for repeat stacheling.

The rauchbier is pretty substantial, bittersweet and roasty, the smoke isn’t overpowering and well integrated. Smooth and easy drinking.
