That Rosalia album!!!!
Was listening to it again last night. An incredible album.

Glad I bought it on release day, because that thing sold out on vinyl in like a week. Three bonus tracks not on streaming and different mixes of various tracks. Columbia way underestimated demand. The repress is a still a month out from landing. Guess they didn’t think a $50 orchestral/electronic album with barely any English language songs on it would sell.

Anyone using something other than Spotify? I switched to Qobuz a while ago for various reasons. I wish the app had a few more things that Spotify had, but am still quite happy, and won’t go back to Spotify.
I’m trying to decide where to move to.

Amazon Music is out.

Apple Music app isn’t supported natively by WiiM, you have to plug in a phone/tablet to get lossless.

Tidal - Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z. Both assholes but Spotify and Amazon’s bosses are worse.

Qobuz - I know this is the one all the audiophiles use.

Apple One is quite a good deal though so might have to just suck up the inconvenience.

I have tried all of those, and am happy with Qobuz. More money for the artists, not, seemingly, led by assholes, far better quality (I was shocked how different this sounds)!

The only downside is maybe some of the user friendliness with the app, few things other apps have are more intuitive. Track wise, when I xfered everything over only a couple things were missing.

I also use Qobuz. I never used Spotify so I can’t compare functionality but I am quite happy with it. I have previously used Apple Music, Amazon Music and Tidal and Qobuz is by far the best of the four despite the baffling name.

Has anyone run into artists not offered on Qobuz? This is the first I’ve heard of the service. I have run into unavailable artists on Spotify and read up on their reasoning for not making their catalog available. Annoying. Totally open to switching. Not sure the rest of the fam will be. Anyone have kids using the app? Seems like they share stuff with friends and social media…might be a hurdle to switch.

Godspeed leaving spotify totally changed my entire spotify profile, lol.

It did prompt me to buy digital copies of their entire catalog on bandcamp though, so I guess that's a good thing. I already had most of it on physical media, but I can't think of the last time I actually played any of it physically.

I cant remember what the 2 albums were that weren't on Qobuz from my entire Spotify library, but seems to be a rarity.

Again, the sound is amazing, catalog great.
I think kids that are using their own might not like it due to the lack of social media (or maybe there is and it is not obvious as i do not social media).
Only other mildly annoying is lack of using siri commands in car play.

Interested in hearing more about it. Considered going Apple last year and the fewer artists was the drawback for me since I stream to find stuff I might like (apparently Paramore, which you may laugh but I only bought my first Paramore album this year) But I buy a lot of physical music and attend way more shows than the average person.

Also last Bandcamp Friday of the year, make it count.

I've been wanting to dump Spotify for a while now but I've built so many playlists over the years that I was hesitant to walk away from all of those. But I have a YouTube premium sub and yesterday I got a notification that I could transfer my playlists to YT music, so I did that. I haven't messed around with it much, but I don't think I like the interface as much. I still think I'll just suck it up and get used to it so I can finally get rid of Spotify and feel better about myself for not supporting such a shitty company. And yeah, Google is shitty too but they'd be way harder for me to quit.

Maybe I'll also give Qobuz a try even though the name is absurd.

This is me with King Gizz. And also since OceanOfMead mentioned Bandcamp Friday, I'll have to pick up some more of their catalog that I'm still missing.

You can transfer all albums and playlists to Qobuz as well. I’d never have been able to switch otherwise

I also use YouTube Music and before that, Google Play Music. I signed up when it was first launched in 2012 for $7.99/month for life. The premium YouTube rolled into the price at some point so now I have ad free YouTube and Music for $8/month. I'll never leave.

I've never been a Spotify user so I don't know any different but, I've never had an issue with missing artists/albums and the UI is perfectly fine for me. You can(were able to) upload your own library to it as well so if something is missing and you have it digitally already, you can just add it to the app and boom bang pow, it's no longer missing.

I would like to say that the Pitchfork end of year list is most relevant to my interests even if my top new albums did not make their list at all (spent a lot of time with Dispatch and Margo Price, shocking). I listened to more albums on their list.
I did see Margo on a couple of lists. Mojo was one and there was another from the usual list of big US/UK newspapers/magazine/sites I'm forgetting.

EDIT - just realized that's the reader's poll. As per every year it's way better than the main list. The left Mayhem off which is fucking ridiculous considering they scored it an 8.

Same. GPM to YTM and ad-free YT. I've never really considered switching.

I did free GPM and just loaded my library as soon as I got a smart phone that year (had used iTunes desktop app before 2012).
