Phish Thread

Looks like I'm gonna shoot for Deer Creek. Probably would've preferred Alpine, but my Phish buddies are planning for DC. I haven't been there since the summer 2000 run, back when the whole area surrounding the place was just cornfields.

Officially committed to Deer Creek. Grabbed some pretty decent pavs for Sunday this morning. We'll just get cheap lawns or see if we can find some pavs on CoT or Stubhub closer to the date. And friends of friends have a hook-up for the house at Sleepy Bear, so we'll be set up with a bed right across the street. Now just gotta wait six months.

Dammit, got caught up at work and completely missed the releases. Guess I'm hoping to get lucky on Mohegan Tix. I'll wait till the week/day of for Great Woods. If it's nice out, lawns, if not I'll pony up for pavs.

Today is the 32nd anniversary of one of the first tapes I ever got, and just a heater of a show. Some high quality Machine Gun Trey moments peppered throughout.

Nice - I loved this tape as well.

Those guys were road warriors back then.

I saw 3-30-92 in St. Louis. Then 2 weeks later, they're at this show in CA. Then caught 5-1-92 Milwaukee and 5-2-92 Chicago.

Reactions on the visuals for Sphere seem mixed to negative. Music still top notch though.

I watched the set openers from the Live Phish stream last night, and I've seen a bunch of phone clips on Insta. I honestly haven't been very impressed by what I've seen. Definitely some cool stuff, but knowing how Phish operates, I expected more. Maybe my expectations were too high. Or maybe it just doesn't translate well to video. I bet it's an entirely different thing being there though.

I've been debating buying the stream tonight, but based on the two songs I saw last night, I don't know if I want to spend the money. Way too much time spent close up on the band members and not enough wide shots. I don't know why they don't just have a shot with the widest-possible angle and just stick with that. We've seen the band plenty. We want to see what they do with the Sphere! At least offer the option to only have the wide angle or something like that.

I bought the streams since I have LP+ and got $20 off the weekend package. I tuned in last night at 11 EST just to see the free one and felt like “ah did I just waste $80?”. I watched the first set today and there are times where the visuals seem stale but other times they look amazing. I have to imagine too that some visuals can’t go “too fast” or else they’ll make everyone puke.

What’s I guess a good choice is that the visuals aren’t literal to the song. I would have thought Maze would have had something to do with…a maze.

Also the visuals look like they start on a set track for the composed section of a song and then can kind of go crazy as the song progresses into a jam. I wonder if that is controlled by anyone or just the way it is set up. Because when a song is coming up and end the visuals tend to follow a natural closure and it’s not like someone just shuts them down mid-stream.
