US - Midwest Ohio is the Worst!

i'm in cincinnati what's good here?
Rhinegeist has a cool spot. That’s about the only rec I can give. I don’t spend much time there and honestly we just consider cinci to be northern Kentucky. If you have time, go to the party source. It’s right across the river and it’s impressive how much booze they have there.

Does Hoof Hearted distribute cans, or is it brewery only? From a quick look around their social media cans seem more sparse in Columbus, but I won’t be able to make it to the Marengo location. For Columbus I’d probably be sending my dad on an errand to stop by the Columbus location after their flight lands if timing allows.

I’ll be driving in from Pittsburgh, staying in Logan and could probably venture out to Lancaster, Athens etc if there’s a good bottle shop to recommend for beers for the weekend if I can’t make it all the way to Columbus. Thanks in advance for any helpful info

Looking around Yelp Bella Vino in Athens might be my best bet, or Jackie O’s?

I'd assume you can find Hoof cans around. Maybe try Savor Growl if you can't get to the actual brewery. Hoof also have a spot downtown I believe where you could most likely get cans. If you're in Logan, I assume you're staying in Hocking Hills. Jackie O's would probably be your best bet.

Any other recs Brubaker COX ?

What day/time does your dad land? Hoof has a location 10 minutes from the Columbus airport, but hours may not work out depending on the day. In general, most decent beer shops in the Columbus area carry some Hoof cans now. The best selection is at the brewery in Marengo, but that is 40 minutes away and in the opposite direction of Logan.

Jackie Os in Athens is a good spot and should have a variety of beers on draft and to go.

And while at Jackie Os, eat some cheese curds for me!

Agree with the 3 responses above. For Hoof and any other distributed beers, you might want to check Savor Growl's Instagram, as they're usually one of the best in the area about posting what comes in every week.

Regarding Hoof itself, note that there are now 2 Columbus locations, one on 4th and one on 5th. There's currently a a legal dispute about the older 4th street location, as the brewery is attempting to dissolve its partnership with the company they co-founded the location with. The 5th street location now appears to have a bigger/fresher selection of cans from the brewery since it's entirely their own venture. You can see the selection on 5th street here and on 4th street here.

Also regarding Jackie O's, it's worth mentioning their new Columbus location has basically everything available to-go that the Athens brewery does in case that option proves more convenient than going to Athens. And if you do end up going to Athens, note that the Jackie O's brewpub/public house and the taproom/brewery are separate locations, though they're not very far from each other. The former has the more extensive food menu including the legendary cheese curds and the latter will have the bigger selection of to-go beer available.

Flight to Pittsburgh got canceled, just landed in Cleveland and gonna have to drive down to hocking hills, but that means I get to tick Fat Heads tonight… clevelandisthecity where you at?
Mother fuck. I wish I could get there. Go to the one in middleburg heights. They have some awesome ipas on tap right now. I recommend the double west coast and Benjamin danklin, but of course my bae head hunter is numero uno.

Anything good in Youngstown? Gonna be spending Monday night there.
Vintage estates is a good bottle shop/beer bar. I don’t ever get out there so I’m not much help.

Just saw this. clevelandisthecity is right that Vintage is a good spot. It's wildly overpriced, but they definitely have the best selection in town. Maybe you found that out during your stay?

Other good spots in the Youngstown area should you find yourself back that way:

Noble Creature Cask House - good house made beers. Solid food. In an old church.
Westside Bowl - awesome dive bar in an old school bowling alley. They have some craft beer, but I stick to High Life or 'Gansett there.
The Blind Bear - newer restaurant with a good tap list and a great bourbon selection.

Heading to Cincinnati next Saturday (May 9) to see a baseball game and tick a new stadium.

I read through this thread and put everything on my map. I think I have a reasonable plan but if anyone has anything new, I'll take it.

And if anyone is around and wants to get a drink, I am also game for that.

And if anyone has stadium section seating recs for an afternoon game, I would also happily take that.
