Anyone here want to dish about Torch & Crown closing? Other than the landlord issues?
Ha, I didn’t even hear about this (see what happens when I delete Instagram?).
No idea what led to the closure but i see one person saying that they took their deposit for their wedding and have been unreachable.
Ownership was apparently pretty scummy. They went to contract brewing last year? and just dismissed all their brewers without much notice or any severance. People ended up running a gofundme for them. I knew a couple that worked for them in FOH and both had negative things to say about management/ownership.
I considered applying for a job at Torch (prior to the return to teaching) and was advised against it by a friend who worked there.
Seems like a rent issue but also they sucked as a company. They were bought by Aslin at some point semi-recently (I think), which amuses me as that place is also a dumpster fire (according to another friend who brewed there for a bit). I think there were numerous issues that led to their demise and I can't say I'm sad about any of it.

Haven’t booked yet but long story short last weekend I offered to take over an old friend’s reservation at a nice restaurant. She could no longer travel and the reservation was transferrable but not refundable. I was looking for things to do with my vacation time anyway and may as well make a weekend of it and see some folks. The restaurant was willing to hold a placeholder until March reservations open up next week.

Yeah I think I'm mostly done with that style of restaurant. I can probably do max one giant tasting menu a year.
I tend to top out around 6 courses anymore but immensely enjoyed the place I took my mom in Reykjavik and this opportunity came up as something I can take Fear to soon and I was in a “say yes” mood so here we are.
Damn, I've never had one of those.
