US - Northeast New York City

Tree House Saratoga location opened on fri:

I've also been to Test in Williamsburg about once a month lately and they have been super impressive - they are mainly pushing haze hype, but the latest release is a textbook roasty coffee stout.

Haymaker is definitely your best option, that area sucks. There's a Threes at Moynihan but I'm not sure if you can drink there or if it's takeaway only.

haymaker is a huge shit show for Phish shows since they're a phish bar. pjs234 you might be out of luck with places that do food and good beer. There's also As Is which also will probably be a shit show and harder to sit. Beer Run and Craft + Carry Chelsea are not too far and right around the corner from each other but don't have food. Apparently Clinton Hall has a midtown location. They have decent beer and a full menu.

Never not seen haymaker as a complete disaster pre-show. I've eaten at some shitty cantina around the corner because I was pressed for time with the train schedule. NYC has such good food and that area around MSG is such a black hole. During the day, my buddy and I would take the train to Brooklyn and just walk around and eat as much as possible. Still dreaming of that slice I got from L'Industrie.

L’Industrie has a West Village location now. But it’s also a shit show. Mama’s Too also opened up around the corner from them.
The best option used to be Grand Delancey but they closed unfortunately.
Moynihan is not the worst option honestly. The dining area has a ton of good food options and a big bar.
There’s always Pizza Suprema for a slice. Or even Rose’s in the LIRR section of Penn Station.

There might be as many people in line at l’industrie during a holiday weekend as lining up for the concert

Hello, sorry for the extremely last-minute-ness of this, but I’ll be in NYC this Friday night through midday next Tuesday (April 4–8). I’ve already got too many landmarks pinned to see, and I thiiink I have a decent list of beer places that I’ve mainly drawn from searching this thread, but I could use some recommendations:
  • Cocktail bars, especially for spirit-driven drinks (I’m a bijou/negroni/old fashioned/manhattan/etc. kind of person – I generally don’t prefer fruity or sour cocktails). Bonus points if it’s easy to get a seat at the bar, extra bonus points if it’s quiet, extra extra bonus points if it’s close to my AirBnB in Queens (first item on the maps below).
  • Food. As you can see I already have a few Taiwanese and regional Chinese places scoped out (I also have Dame on there but I’ve already missed the reservation window). My rule of thumb when traveling is to try to get food I can’t easily get in San Diego. I’d also be curious if anybody has recs/anti-recs about any of the NY restaurants on this list.
Lastly, other than doing one of the observation decks on Monday (since it’s currently looking like that’s the least rainy day), my scheduling is pretty wide open at the moment, so if anybody wants to grab a drink somewhere, shoot me a DM. 🙂

This and the linked list are all over the place. It's a lot that's very spread out. You can generally find a lot of great places to your liking in a lot of neighborhoods, but are you staying near transit? It looks like maybe the 7 (or the LIRR?) are closest to you...?

If so, Sweet Avenue in Sunnyside would have a good beer list, as well as some cocktails. The owner is one of our favorite people.

Seating at the good "must do" cocktail spots is in my experience hit or miss and dependent on luck, but you could always try spots like Mace or Katana Kitten closer to opening. Holiday Cocktail Lounge makes some good no frills drinks.

For Chinese (and Korean), if you are close to the 7, you could always take the train to Flushing. Spicy Village in Manhattan is also a good spot because they specialize in Henan cuisine. Not sure if you have that your way but I find it's a bit different from your usual Sichuan/Cantonese.

I’m like a block north of Mount Olivet Cemetery, so I’m about a half hour walk to the M train, but realistically I’ll be using the bus to make connections to transit since there are a bunch of bus stops near my AirBnB. I’m honestly not fussed as long as it takes less than 90 minutes to connect between any two places that I’m going to – for me spending time taking public transportation is as much a part of traveling to a new city as anything else.

Thanks, all added to the list! We do have a little bit of Henan cuisine in San Diego but it’s mostly pretty middling and I like the selection of Spicy Village’s menu.
