Fully agree with your Slovakia sentiments. Zero craft beer thus far, just good/great pilsners. I've been waiting 8.5 years...and counting.Slovakia thoughts... Maybe it was because we were only in Kosice for a couple hours and then in the High Tatras Mountains for a couple days, but Slovakia appears to be behind the curve in terms of craft beer. Pretty damn solid macro pilsners that I happily enjoyed drinking, but a lot of middling malty IPAs with some of that unwanted peanut butter imperfection. My brother-in-law who lives in Morocco and has zero access to anything other than his homebrew was happy, so I stayed quiet and didn't rain on his parade.
Poland... Wow. Poland has an incredible craft beer scene. I really liked Browar Fortuna's Pilsner that I had on draft one night at dinner, and I thought Harpagan, Ziema Obiecana, Funky Fluid, Hoplala and Brokreacja all made IPAs that would hold up against the good stuff in the PNW.
I need to get back to Poland...fun beers. They also have very good fests during warmer months.
