Live Performances - upcoming & reviews

Serious though I think I am going to do the three show run from PawPaw to Morgantown, WV and party like it is 2019. This has been a terrible week for me the last few years and i could use a good ladies road trip.
update: we have an extra seat at our four top at the winery in Pawpaw. Costs us the same either way.

WV is up in the air but got both Michigan shows. I just want to eat pepperoni rolls and road trip.

I saw sunn 0))) in Australia. It was the only time where I've felt physically ill and had to leave a show. I've thrown up maybe a handful of times in my adult life, and this one came close.

I will listen to them, but I can't see them live again.

I had a similar experience with My Bloody Valentine. People were vomiting around me. I had to leave.

MBV was the only show where they were handing out earplugs to everyone who entered when I saw them in 2008?

I bought some earplugs at a local guitar center beforehand because I had heard all of the horror stories.

One of the two or three shows where earplugs were 100% necessary. I would have never been able to survive MBV without em.

Yo, mborden that's dope. I saw Pharcyde at SOB's in lower Manhattan, 25ish years ago. They are going to perform in Brooklyn as well as Norwalk CT, both doable for me.

How did you like the show ? What was the length of their set ? I recall being blown away by their energy, 25 years ago .
The show was pretty dope. I've never seen them live, so this was quite the treat. There was a DJ set and a rap set, both from local PDX acts, then they went on. I didn't realize Bootie Brown is out of the group due to not wanting to work with Slimkid3 and Fatlip, so it was just them and Imani. They did a bunch of classic tracks from Bizarre Ride II and Labcabincalofornia as well as one new track called Timeless. They left out a bunch of Bootie Brown verses (instead of covering them) except for Soul Flower and Passin Me By, where they just played it over the sound system. The energy even in 2026 was bananas. Imani was all over the place, doing high kicks, hopak dancing, it was fucking nuts. They were only on for a little over an hour but it was so fun and I really enjoyed it.

I also learned that Slimkid3 lives in Portland so he had a bunch of friends and family at the show. He said it was weird that his son's friends in middle school listened to Pharcyde because "our music is very inappropriate for children" 🤣

Saw Gabriel Kahane and Roomful of Teeth perform their album Elevator Songs. Gabriel started the set solo with two songs from Book of Travelers, one new tune, the best performance of The Ambassador I have ever heard, and finished with “To be American” from Magnificent Bird. The producer of The Ambassador now lives in Chicago and was at the show. The performance was dedicated to him but what made it so good was you could tell he has been touring with extremely talented and well trained vocal performers. When he got to the bridge where the doorman says he would be happy to be buried in the ballroom when the wrecking ball arrives he took it down to a whisper and it was beautiful.
Roomful of Teeth did one song of their last album, I don’t recall the name but apparently it is a Caroline Shaw song that is inspired by the Tempest.

Gabriel Kahane is a magnificent storyteller in song and I had snapped a photo of the lyrics to this hot tub operatic number while spinning the album at lunch. The performer did a great job with expressions and the robe took it over the top.
