They're more miss than hit. I'd gamble on an Evan Williams at $8 or less, but otherwise you'll almost certainly be better off with a fresh Parabola, BCBS, or even 2025 Eclipse.

Sorry I missed this. We were generally just regifting them within the group, but recently we established a "if you receive it, you must open it" rule that I have followed. I usually drink at least 4 oz and drainpour the rest if it's bad, may go up to 8 oz if it's ok. But I tend to drainpour beer pretty frequently.
I've had fewer than 30 full beers this year. Maybe under 20. I'll probably clear out that Eclipse and an OE40 I "won" this weekend.

Eclipse sucks now? Man they used to be top tier.
Bottle Logic seems to be everywhere now. I've periodically grabbed a bottle or two on Oregon trips, but now they are even in liquor stores in small town South Carolina. Still decent as far as BA pastry stouts go, I had a bottle of Fundamental Observation and enjoyed it.

I'm just giving Nathan a hard time. I don't really drink beer anymore and my opinion shouldn't be trusted.
Aged Eclipse bombers often suck though. Their mobile bottling operation at the time introduced oxygen randomly and they usually fell off hard. Add in my usual, "Most beer is better fresh" mantra, and I'm in for a bad time when I open that 2010 later today.
This is wild considering 99% of our conversations are about underberg.

I think that the main problem with the newer Eclipse bottlings is that the beer really hasn't changed in, what, 20 years?

I'm honestly surprised to hear you say that given your affinity for Two Hearted, and I'm not saying that as a cheap shot.
I prefer classic stouts and porters over today's modern pastry bullshit. That Great Lakes BA stout (I forget the name) is one I want to revisit.

BA Blackout Stout? That is a blast from the past!
I don't like the whole pastry thing, but a tasteful coffee or raspberry stout does get me there.
I just think that breweries have gotten better at making a base stout that will do better in a barrel than they used to.
