And just Monday he had the flame in Montreal. I’m gonna step out on what I assume is a short limb and guess it was CTE related. RIP
I said something about the brawl in the streaming thread last week at the close of the Shoresy season and again before I knew the cause of death. Before you jump to CTE remember hockey players have all kinds of injuries and chronic pain. My cousin struggled after opioid addiction from hockey injuries. He never made the NHL due to college injuries but played for feeder teams. It affects everyone and is why the sport has changed to make play safer.

Sure. Could be really anything, I guess I hope that the league could just accept that CTE is a serious concern in hockey and maybe work to improve support for players
On a lighter note, it was a blast last Thursday in my men’s league when we had a former AHL/NHL player (Josh Hennessey) show up on our bench, only to realize two current players (Parker Ford (WPG) and Brett Berard (NYR)) were on the other bench. Miraculously we only lost 3-1, but was an awesome time. They all showed up once last year too. At least we don’t play the same team again tonight.
Great game 1. Back and forth, tight checking, fast play. Best part, zero scrums after the whistles. Just good, hard fought hockey. Wish all games could be like that.
Another great game. I hope McNabb’s face is ok, that was pretty nasty.
That 3rd period was nuts. Fuck Vegas!
Looks like it's going to be a crazy off season. Larkin requests a trade out of Detroit and rumors are the McDavid is open to a move out of Edmonton.
39 seconds makes a massive difference
For those who know about these things, what is the significance of someone being drafted in the 50s as a defenseman in today’s NAHL draft? 17/18 y/o. From big deal to irrelevant, what do you say?
IMO depends on how their first year goes. But awesome for them. Probably going DIII for college and having a ton of fun.
A buddy’s son just finished his second year in the NAHL and just committed to Skidmore after Air Force decommitted him a couple months ago. His older brother went to Air Force after the NAHL and played well - was tied for fifth in scoring this season, but still its Air Force.
The changes in the NCAA eligibility a couple years ago have made DI much harder to get into and there are more changes coming it seems. Also sounds like the USNTDP is starting their own league? Or something like that in the next year. So modifications are ongoing and I think the NAHL may end up taking the biggest hit in talent over the next handful of years but not immediately I don’t think. Established teams are likely to join the new league, locally is Mt St Charles that is likely to join that league.
Way more info than you were after but that’s my take. He should have a blast and that’s what matters. All roads lead to beer league, it’s just a matter of how long it takes to end up there.

The NAHL isn’t quite what it once was, but it means the kid is pretty good. Probably has a solid shot to play D1 hockey.
Also to add, my friends son that just committed to Skidmore was drafted #53 in the 2024 NAHL draft

Thanks! My cousin basically decided he was done with hockey but now is rethinking it with the draft news. He did two different prep schools his last 2 years of high school and neither were great experiences. We’ll see what he decides.
